TE%Afi 76849 PHONE 9i6-446-203> Re: 198th District Attorney's Leg Ass stant salary adjustment _ ) Jt f Zhis letter is a request for a pay increase to $500 per month prorated betrreen the five (5) counties in the 198th District for Janet L. Jones, Legal Assistant. Since the request for Mrs. Jones's salary increase in August, 1979, our office has endeavored to pay for her raises from our State buclgetacxount to avoid an increase fran the counties but our office has found it necessary to retain another full time secretary because of the case load in our district and our State budget cannot handle any additional expenses. Based on the 1980 census population figures of your county, the Kerr County percentage is 61.44 which equals an increase in the monthly contri- bution to the District Attorney's Legal Assistant salary to the amount of $307.20. I am attaching a letter received in our office from the Comptroller of Public Accounts in reference to the question of the amount of salary that may be contributed by the counties to the District Attorney's staff, dated Novend~er 9, 1982. This salary request would have been made August 1982 but inasmuch as the reply to the question was just received, I would appreciate it very much if the salary increase to Janet L. Jones be effective December 1, 1982. Thank you for your consideration iri this matter. ~/jj ENE Cp ~~ ~~ ~ ~ ~ r COMPTROLLER OF PUBLIC ACCOUNTS °• r"s ~~'~ STATE OF TEXAS BOB BULLOCK AUSTIN, 78774 Comptroller November 9, 1982 Ms, Janet Jones 193th Judicial District P. 0. Box 126 Junction, Texas 76849 Dear Pls. Jones: This letter is in reference to your question concerning the $400.00 maximum salary to be paid secretaries of a Judicial District. You also mentioned the fact that it may be an old law. Our legal staff has researched the statutes and have determined that Vernons' Annoted Civil Statutes Article 332a rules in that it repeals all previous law concerning salaries to a prosecutors staff, secretaries, assistants, etc. The article states, the Prosecutor may set these Sala- ries and they would require the approval of the Commissioners Court. We hope this reply will be of some assistance to you. Should we be of further service, please call toll-free to 1-800-252-5555, ext. 202. Sincerely ~~ J. P.
