RESOLS/TION ON COLNTY ROADS AND BRIDGES

WHF.FtEA3, Counties in Texas carry the responsibility foc over 163,428 miles o2
the state's public roadwaysi and,
WHEREAS, 801 of these roadways are unpaved and require constant maintenance
and,
WHEREAS, 6,940 bridges maintained by counties and cities in Texas are
deslgmted as structurally deficient by federal inspectiae atandards~ arid,
WHEREAS, another 4,674 county and wnicipal bridges are classi[ied as function-
ally obaoletal and
WHEREAS, proposals calling !or a special session o! the liexaa Legislature to
consider additional landing !or Texas' roads tall short of providing
assistance to counties in maintaining county roads and bridges and,
WHEREAS, Texas Counties cannot continua to seek resolution for this pcoblem
