ORDER NO. 15990 APPROVAL OF EMPLOYMENT OF LINDA M. SAMFORD AS A FULL-TIME CLERK IN THE OFFICE OF THE JUSTICE OF THE PEACE OF PRECINCT NO. FOUR On this the 26th day of March~1985, upon motion made by Commissioner Guthrie, seconded by Commissioner Higgins, the Court unanimously approved the employment of Linda M. Samford as a full-time Clerk in the office of the Justice of the Peace of Precinct No. Four, at a salary of $790.00 per month ($9,480.00 per annum), effective April 1st, 1985, and that her salary be paid out of the General Fund. February 28, 1985 Hon. Gordon Morriss, County Judge, Kerr County Billy Guthrie, Commissioner, Prect. 4 Victor Lich, Commissioner, Prect. 3 Edward Higgins, Commissioner, Prect. 2 Fred Holland, Commissioner, Prect. 1 Hon. John P. Hill, Justice of the Peace, Prect. I~ Gentlemen: - I would like to be placed on the Kerr County payroll as the work for the J.P. Office has become a full time 8 hour a day fob. When I started nearly six years ago the work was light and took about a half day. It increased two years ago to about two thirds of a day and now it has become a full 8 hour fob. 1985 looks as though ~~ there will be quite an additional increase in activity due to the growth of West Kerr County. Just as an example, January 198l~. we han~ died 87 cases with fines totaling $339!.}..00. In January 1985 we handled 123 cases with fines totaling $5625.00. When Judge Hill goes to town for Court, issuing papers, warrants, evictions, magistrate's warnings, inquests, peace bonds at the ~sil and other duties nearly every day, I have to be here to answer the phone, take messages, receive and post fines and the usual duties as a clerk. Judge's personal business requires only from 3 to 5 hours per week, and we have now scheduled it from 5:00 to 5:30 on week days but mostly Saturday mornings, when most people are relaxing. As I have two children, it is important to put in as much extra work as possible to make ends meet. During the 5~ years I have worked in the J.P. Office, my monthly reports have never been late, my reports to the Office of Court Admin- istration have been in order and on time, the bank book has never been out of balance with my deposits. Nor have there ever been any dis- crepancies in my bank accounts as checked by the annual audit. The system started by me, oY tying the case number on the deposit slip and the fines on the docket book, checks, and stubs makes it easy for them or you to check back on any case. With my years oY experience in the J.P.'s office I feel that I am thoroughly qualified and sincerely hope you will take the above facts into consideration and place me on the county payroll in keeping with the practice of the other J.P. clerks. .,r. Yours very truly, ~~ ~ ~~~ ~ Linda M.
