AUTHORIZATION FOR PURCHASE OF LAW BOOKS FOR COUNTY
COURT-AT-LAW
On this the 25th day of July 1985, upon motion made by
Commissioner Lich, seconded by Commissioner Guthrie, the
Court unanimously approved that William L. ("Bill") Baskette,
Jr., Administrative Assistant to the Commissioners' Court,
be authorized to purchase law books for the County Court-at-Law
in the amount of $5,929.00 or less, from West Publishing
Company, Shepards, and McGraw-Hill Publishers, payable out
of the County Law Library Fund.

Gentlemen:
Based on further interviews with attorneys, I am revising
my suggestion for the purchase of new lawbooks for the new
courtroom and offices. There will be sufficient room for
these volumes.

The requirement of bidding would not apply as there is only
one company capable of furnishing new volumes, West Publishing
Company. Used books have many disadvantages which I detailed
at the July 8 meeting.
Instead of purchasing another set of Southwest Reporters,
I am recommending purchase of
Vernon's Texas Statutes and Codes (Black)...$2,985.00
(one year free upkeep service)
West's Texas Digests, I and II (Blue)....... 2,544.00
(one year free upkeep service)
Shepard's Texas Cases ...................... 400.00
TOTAL PURCHASE $5,929.00
