RECOMMENDED ACTION Louis Schreiner Field 1875 Airport Loop Rd Kerrville, Tx 78028 Telephone (512) 257-6840 • Telex 4952870 March 23, 1987 Honorable Jack Forman Mayor, City of Kerrville City Hall Kerrville, Texas 7802II Dear Mayor F1~rman: Over the past few months, Kerrville Aviation has taken the steps necessary to provide Louis Schreiner Airport with a certified weather reporting facility. These steps included the procuring of required certified requirements and training of weather observers. The National Weather Service will commission Kerrville Aviation as a Supplementary Aviation P;eather Re~rorting Station (SAWRS) on 1 April 1987. "ERV" call sign will be on tiie national computer with terminal weather available to all pilots. Tnis will not only provide the ability for commercial pilots to operate in and out of Y.errville during instrument weather conditions but will greatly facilitate all pilots thus enhancing planning and safety. For a beginning Kerrville Aviation certified employees will take twelve (12) hourly weather observations each day, beginning at 7:00 a.m. and ending at 7:00 p.m. Additional special re~rts will be handled as tY:e rules require. Those reports will be transmitted by telephone to the flight service facility for entry into the weather system. The Kerrville Unicorn frequency will also transmit the weather to in and outbound pilots. Kerrville Aviation is not a forecaster, only an observer of actual conditions. Kerrville Aviation will continue to supply the qualified personnel to make these weather reports every day of the year during our normal open hours. In the future, night reports may be needed requiring additional personnel. This expansion should be addressed as the requirement dictates.
