APPROVAL OF SUPPLEMENTAL PAYMENT TO RONALD L. SUTTON, DISTRICT
ATTORNEY OF THE 198TH JUDICIAL DISTRICT
On this the 23rd day of May 1988, upon motion made by Commis-
sioner Ray, seconded by Commissioner Baldwin, the Court
unanimously approved a supplemental payment to RONALD L. SUTTON,
DISTRICT ATTORNEY OF THE 198TH JUDICIAL DISTRICT, in the amount
of $4,000.00 for the balance of the fiscal year, out of the sum
of $10,000.00 previously paid into the treasury of Kerr County
by said District Attorney under judgment of the 198th District
Court.

To The Honorable Kerr County Judge and Commissioners Court:
Dear Sirs:
Recently, as result of a disposition in a particular criminal case, the
defendant paid a sum of 510,000.00 into the treasury of Kerr County and under
the judgment, the monies were to be allocated for the expenses of the 198th
District Attorney's office. This was to be in addition to the monies allocated
in the account budget allotment.
Until the last two months my office arrangement has been such that 3 other
tenants contributed to the cost of office space and secretarial expenses. Two
tenants have closed their office and my office needing the space desparately,
took over what was otherwise rented space and it has become necessary that my
office pick up these expenses. Our allotted State funds will in no way allow
this to be made up from that source. Therefore it is necessary that my office
draw on the budgeted and judgment funds available for the balance of the year to
pay these expenses.
I would like to bring, Janet Jones, chief secretary and legal assistant's
._ salary up to parity with that of Kay Brown, whose position is the same as that
of Mrs. Jones. To do so, it will be necessary to supplement through these funds
a gross amount of 5394.25 per month, effective immediately for this month. I
should further request that an allottment of 3350 per month be paid to my office
for rent. If this is allowed, I feel that we may be able to finish the calendar
year with available State funds.
As soon as possible I will be submitting to the Court a proposed budget for
the next fiscal year, which will reflect in more detail the necessities of my
office. The unused portion of the 310,000.00 would be available to be carried
'" over into next year's budget for this purpose since it is not a budget item
which would lapse at the end of your fiscal year.
