FROM: David L. Litke ~-. ~-z~ DATE: December 6', 1989 SUBJECT: Solid Waste Management Plans The Comprehensive Municipal Solid Waste Managerrrent, Resource Recovery, and Conservation Act (Article 44770) requires that b}~ December 31, 1989 all cities and counties with a population of more than 30,000 inhabitants shall review the provision of solid waste management services in its jurisdiction by a public agency or by a private person or persons. (Sections 12 and 37) There are currently no other conditions placed on tFris requirement other than making it a matter of record that the county c7overnment I~as reviewed and considered availability of collection services for its irrliabitants. We have surveyed the garbage collectors and septic pumpers to determine how many companies are available and what areas of tl~e county they serve. The results of the survey show that more than one septic pumper is available to serve all areas of the county. Private garbage collectors are available to serve almost all areas of the county with more than one service available to the population centers of the county. I would recommend that the following statement be filed for the record with a copy maintained with the Commissioners Court and one copy with tl~e Environmental Health Department.
