MOTION NOT TO USE THF. WORD "RIVERSIDE" IN CONNECTION
WITH ANY COUNTY OWNED PROPERTY
On this the 25th day of August 1989, upon motion made by
Commissioner Ray, seconded by Commissioner Holekamp, with
Commissioner's Ray, Holekamp and Morgan voting "AYE", and
Commissioner Baldwin voting "NAY", said motion that the park
area located on Riverside Drive, as well as any other future
or presently existing property belonging to the County, will
not contain the name "Riverside" in order to eliminate
confusion by the general public between the Riverside Nature
Center and any County owned property, was approved by a
majority vote,
(County Judge Edwards was out of the courtroom during
voting.)

IN RE: RIVERSIDE PARK-RIVERSIDE NATURE CENTER ASSOCIATION
The RIVERSIDE NATURE CENTER ASSOCIATION is a newly-formed
organization whose purpose is "to acquire, preserve, operate, and
maintain an approximately nine-acre tract of land and appurtenances
thereon in downtown Kerrville, Texas, known locally as "Riverside"
as a wildflower botanical garden in as near its present pristine
condition as possible; to rehabilitate the structure or structures
thereon to resemble the original conformations when built in the
early 1880s; to operate or lease for operation the property as a
science and nature center, natural history museum, and as an edu-
cational and resource facility concentrating on the natural history
of the Hill Country of Texas; to thus enhance natural history and
biological education opportunities for local Hill Country students
from kindergarten through Schreiner College years; to provide simi-
lar education and experiences for the general public; to provide an
area of original Hill Country landscape for the enjoyment of all
visitors; to provide for development of herb gardens, etc., as
might have been planted in the late 19th century by Hill Country
householders; and to provide a downtown public access/overlook of
the Guadalupe River. The ASSOCIATION shall be nonprofit, nonsec-
tarian, and nonpolitical in nature, and shall be devoted only to
provision of opportunities for study and enjoyment for visitors to
the area it will undertake to conserve and operate." (Article I,
Section 1, Bylaws of RIVERSIDE NATURE CENTER ASSOCIATION)
On behalf of the RIVERSIDE NATURE CENTER ASSOCIATION, I
respectfully request that the Commissioners Court of Kerr County
adopt a resolution whereby the park area located on Riverside Drive,
as well as any other future or presently existing property belonging
to the County, will not contain the name "Riverside" in order to
eliminate confusion by the general public between the RIVERSIDE
NATURE CENTER and any County-owned property.
