COUNTY JUDGE EDWARDS CALLED FOR EXECUTIVE SESSION at 3:35 o'clock P. M. EXECUTIVE SESSION ENDED AND THE COURT RECONVENED IN OPEN SESSION at 4:00 o'clock P. M. County Extension Agent, Eddie Holland, presented a Resolution to the Court. No order was passed, but the Commissioners' Court signed the following resolution: RESOLUTION Whereas, the United States Congress Cooperative Extension Service in 1914 with Smith-Lever Act to help farmers and communities and families with a multitude the Texas Legislature created the Extension Service the following year; and established the the passage of the ranchers, rural of problems, and texas Agricultural Whereas, the Texas Agricultural Extension Service was assigned administratively as the educational agency of The Texas A & M University System to conduct informal educational programs in agriculture, home economics, youth leadership development, community resource development and related areas as part of the nationwide system pursuant to the cooperative agreement between the federal government, the state government and county government; and Whereas, the Texas Agricultural Extension Service has a cooperative relationship with county commissioners courts through its network of county offices which enables rapid response to citizens' needs; and PAGE 330 Whereas, the Texas Agricultural Extension Service hoe demonstrated a positive force during the past 75 years, improving the quality of life for all citizens of Texas; and Whereas, the Texas Agricultural Extension Service has continued to stay abreast of the needs and concerns of the state's citizens and ie helping rural and urban citizens of this county to become more knowledgeable about issues and to make informed decisions; and Whereas, the Texas Agricultural Extension Service of The Texas A 8 M University System is observing the 75th Anniversary of the initiation of this partnership in education as part of a national celebration; Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Commissioners Court of Kerr County, Texas, convened in regular term this the 4th day of May, 1989, that the members of this Court hereby officially recognize and commend the Texas Agricultural Extension Service for its timely and in-depth educational programs aimed at helping the citizens of this county to solve everyday problems and thereby improving their overall quality of life. RESOLVED that the 8th day of May, 1989 be proclaimed as National 75th Anniversary of Cooperative Extension System Day in this county. RESOLVED that all citizens of this county are encouraged to join in this observance by attending open house to be held at the county Extension office serving this county in recognition of and in appreciation for our unique educational partnership. ORDER NO. 18637 MOTION TO APPROVE THE HIRING OF DAVID ALEXANDER AS JAILER IN THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT On this the 4th day of May 1989, upon motion made by Commissioner Holekamp, seconded by Commissioner Ray, the Court unanimously approved the hiring of David Alexander as jailer in the Sheriff's Department, effective April 24, 1989 at Pay Group 13, Step 1, 514,042.00 annually, 51,170.17 monthly and 5585.08 semi-monthly.
