Graduation from a recognized two-year program in an environmental health field, 2. Or graduation from an applicable military or technical school, 3. Or graduation from an accredited college with a degree in the basic, natural, agricultural, environmental sciences or any combination thereof, 4. Or graduation from high school or GED with two years of full- time employment in environmental health. Experience and education relating to soils, plants, and water is preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS. ABILITIES Knowledge of state statutes and county regulations governing on- site sewage facilities. Knowledge of state regulations pertaining to environmental health such as the Texas Health and Safety Code. Ability to deal tactfully with the public; work with others; express ideas clearly and concisely; express balanced judgement especially in evaluating situations; be self starting and show initiative; organize work and be attentive to detail. LICENSES REQUIRED Valid Texas Drivers License Designated Representative for On-Site Sewage Facilities iObtain after starting work) PHYSICAL Good health and physical condition to move freely by vehicle and on foot to locations such as construction sites and on unlevel terrain. Employment physical will be required. 7/90 POSITION DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Environmental Health Technician Pay Group 16 , FLSA-Non-exempt DEPARTMENT: Environmental Health GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The technician is selected by and responsible to the environmental health director. Work involves performing inspections and investigations in the environmental health field primarily in on- site sewage disposal and illegal dumping. Work is performed within established procedures and policies involving sound judgement and initiative. All aspects of work performed is under the direct supervision of the director. The technician will perform other duties as assigned and/or required to maintain department operations. CRITICAL JOB ELEMENTS/PERFORMANCE STANDARDS Inspects on-site sewage facilities to ensure compliance with regulations. Investigates complaints regarding improper sewage disposal and illegal dumping. May investigate and inspect health nuisances or pollution conditions. May inspect water wells and water systems. Conduct inspections to secure corrections and abatement of complaint conditions and/or regulation violations. Provides information and promotes education relating to environmental health through individual contacts and through civic or other meetings. Prepares and submits reports on inspection findings. May include collection, assembly, and analyzing data and/or statistics. Submits reports and records of work performed. Performs job duties within requirements established by Kerr County personnel policies and administrative procedures. Completes on-going training in the form of courses, meetings, seminars, ho-nestudy courses, etc., to improve job performances.
