BOX 842 • KERRVILLE, TEXAS 78029.0842 July 11, 1990 Dear Judge Edwards, Judge-Elect Stacy and County Commissioners: The float and the Queen and her court have done an excellent job in publicizing Kerrville already this year. At the time of this writing, the KCFA float with its slogan of "Lose Your Heart to the Hills" has been in a total of six parades and it has brought home six awards. In addition to this plaque, there is a large 1st place from Frontier Days in Bandera and 1st place at the Loyalty Day Parade here. We have received a 3rd place in the Stonewall Peach Jamboree, and 1st place trophy at Luling Watermelon Thump. At the Comfort Fourth of July Celebration, we also received a trophy for 1st place. We plan on making 1 to 2 parades a month for the rest of the summer and more when September rolls around. We plan on being in the Aqua Festival day parade, and if we win a place there, going back for the lighted night parade. As you can tell we are very busy representing you. Most parades (especially Aqua Festival) ask for a typed script and a copy of our is attached to this letter. We are respectfully requesting $1,000.00 towards the upkeep and traveling expenses of this -- your float. It will cost $420.00 per year for storage in a dust-free area and $328.00 for float insurance. We owe $1,500.00 for a cover for the towing vehicle which is required for all major parades (Aqua Festival, Fiesta). License renewal costs almost $50.00 per year. Estimates not included with this letter for these expenses will be presented to the City Council at the time of our presentation before you. Each trip costs approximately $50.00. The expenses include qas for the towing vehicle and chaperon drivers. At the present time board members are paying for these costs mostly from their own pockets and waiting to be reimbursed somewhere down the road when the money becomes available from the Fair proceeds. Page 2 July 11, 1990 County Commissioner The fair is doing things to help support itself. A Rummage/Dicker sale is planned for July 14, 1990 at the courthouse and it is hoped that we will net at least $2,000.00. This will pay off the float ($1,500.00 is still owed to Southwest Parades, Inc.) and pay the last of our outstanding smaller bills, i.e., telephone expenses, meeting hall expenses, etc. The Queen's court has held bake sales and rummage sales to offset their expenses for food, drinks and entertainment. More fund raisers are planned when school begins. In the mail are at least 200 letters to celebrities (rock stars, country western stars, sports figures, authors and dignitaries) for a Celebrity Sell-Out which we hope to hold in late-August to mid- September. Again, we ask for your support -- and in so doing investing in Kerrville's future. We believe that we have represented you well and feel certain that this representation will continue on into the future. Your Queen, Natasha Micoff, your Duchesses, Donna Hallman, Lesley Toops, Jessamyn Allen, Brandi Jones, as well as your Little Princesses, Sheona Baldwin, Jessica Matter, Amy Bolin and Brooke Mains thank you for your past, your present and your future support. The promises that we made last year have come to pass -- this float is an award winner! It goes to other parades and to other fairs and it represents Kerrville and Kerr County well. It has helped put Kerrville in the minds of those watching these parades as well as your "Girls" have put Kerrville and Kerr County in the minds of those at other fairs. Together we will make everyone "Lose Their Hearts to the Hills" of Kerrville and Kerr County. Thank you for your support and your consideration. Sincerely, Glenna Bowlin 1st Vice President, KCFA Documents appended: 1. Picture of Float 2. Picture of the Queen and her Court 3. Script for Parade Announcer PARADE SCRIPT FOR KCFA FLOAT The Kerr County Fair Association Float boasts a large, hot-pink, open heart on a pedestal and six smaller, hot-pink hearts with gold filigree, which picks up the Kerr County Chamber of Commerce theme of "Lose Your Heart To the Hills." The scalloped, deep purple on the lavender field suggests the rolling majesty of the hills that make up the terrain of the majority of the Kerr County Hill Country area. KCFA Queen Natasha Micoff, a Sophomore at Ingram Tom Moore High, stands on the pedestal in front of the large hot-pink, open heart. She is surrounded by her Duchesses: Donna Hallman, a Junior at Tivy High; Leslie Toops, a Freshman at Howard Payne University; Jessamyn Allen, a Junior at Ingram Tom Moore; and Brandie Jones, a Senior at Tivy High in Kerrville. (Also on our float may be our KCFA Little Princiesses --- Sheona Baldwin, Jessica Matter, Amy Bolin and Brooke Mains.) This float was unveiled in April, just in time for Fiesta Flambeau in San Antonio, where it garnished a 3rd place award. Since then, it has won awarded in each parade it has attended. The Kerr County Fair Association, their queen and her court invite everyone to visit their portion of the beautiful Texas Hill Country at the Kerr County Fair the 25-28 of October.
