APPROVAL OF PROCLAMATION TO DECLARE APRIL 22, 1990
AS "EARTH DAY" 1990 AS REBUESTED BY THE KERRVILLE AREA
LEAGUE OF WDMEN VOTERS °
On this the 12th day of March 1990, upon motion made by
Commissioner Ray, seconded by Commissioner Holekamp, with
Commissioner's Ray, Holekamp and Morgan, and Judge Edwards
voting "AYE", and Commissioner Baldwin "ABSTAINING", said
motion to approve the Proclamatlon declaring April 22, 1990
at "EARTH DAY" 1990, as requested by the Kerrville Area
League of Women Voters, was approved by a majority vote.

On February 27, 1990, the Kerrville City Council proclaimed April
22,1990 as Earth Day 1990.
We are asking you as a governmental body within our proposed sphere of
influence to proclaim April 22, 1990 as Earth Day 1990.
Enclosed is a map and sample proclamation. We have chosen to be on
your agenda on March 12, 1990.

WHEREAS, Almost twenty years ago, more than twenty million Americans
joined together on Earth Day in a demonstration of concern for the
sweepi g new awshto proltect ouraair~water,landi and; andsage of
WHEREAS, in the nineteen years since the first Earth Day, despite environmental
improvements, the environmental health of the planet is increasingly
endangered, threatened by Global Climate Change, Ozone Depletion,
Tropical Deforestation, Ocean Pollution, Toxic Wastes,
Desertification, and Nuclear Waste requiring action by all sectors of
society; and
WHEREAS, Earth Day 1990 is a national and international call to action for all
citizens to join in a global effort to save the planet; and
WHERF~IS, Earth Day 1990 activities and events will educate all citizens on the
importance of acting in an environmentally sensitive fashion by
recycling, conserving energy and water, using efficient
transportation, and adopting a more ecologically sound lifestyle; and
WHEREAS, Earth Day 1990 activities and events will educate all citizens on the
importance of buying and using only those products least
harmful io the environment; and
WHERF~S, The Earth Day 1990 -Hill Country Coalition activities and events
will educate Hill Country citizens on their specific environmental
concerns of the Hill Country and how they can become act'nrely
involved in saving our natural resources; and
WHERFJ~.S, Earth Day 1990 activities and events will educate all citizens on the
importance of doing business only those companies that are
environmentally sensitive and responsible; and
WHERFJ\S, Earth Day 1990 activities and events will educate all citizens on the
importance of voting for those candidates who demonstrate an abiding
concern for the environment; and
WHEREAS, Earth Day 1990 activities and events will educate all citizens on the
importance of supporting the passage of legislation chat will help
protect the environment;

local and global environment and launching the "Decade of the
