Construction Bid Everything possible was done to insure that contractors in this area were aware of the bid on the Ranchero Road Construction project: 1) Advertisement was published. 2) Twelve contractors on the Road. & Bridge bid list were notified by mail (list attached). 3) Four of these picked up plans. 4) Two attended apre-bid meeting. Due to the time of year most contractors were already committed to other work. Edmund Jenschke, Inc. bid $73,980.00. The Engineer's bid estimate was $92,150.00, and the County Road & Bridge Department bid estimate was $75,000.00 Therefore, all parties agree this was a fair and acceptable bid. (Voelkel memo attached) Since this project involves a school zone and timing is a major factor, going out for new bids would not be feasible at this time. Taking all of these things into consideration, we recommend the Commissioners accept this bid. 317 CUY STREET KEAAVIL LC. TE%AS )Kf11P. St: ?51 llt:l Memo to: FRANK JOHNSTON, COUNTY ENGINEER From: D. R. Voelkel Re: BID PROPOSAL: RANCIIERO DRIVE KECONSTRUCTION Date: July 18, 1991 I have examined the Bid Proposal submitted by Edmund Jenschke, Inc., and checked the extensions. I find it to be in order and correct. Since my estimate for this work was $92,150 I consider this to be a very competitive bid proposal. Their proposal to complete the work in forty five (45) calendar days is very reasonable and I anticipate that with good weather conditions they will complete the work in even less time. I have known the Jenschkes for many years and have had occasions to observe their work. I have always found their work to meet or exceed the construction specifications. I have also found them to be honest, proficient, dependable and above reproach, and that they are highly capable of accomplishing this work in -"'~ accordance with the contract documents. Even though Jenschke's was the only bid submitted, I feel confident awarding a contract to them will be in the best interests of the citizens of Kerr County.
