MEMORANDUM TO: Commissioner's Court FROl12 Leonard Odom, Jr., Road Administrator DATE: November 4, 1991 RE Recommendation for Purchase of Rollers The Court received two bids for the purchase of the smooth drum roller. The Dresser roller bid of $25,000.00 was lower than that of the Hyster, however, the only common factor in the two machines is the size of the drums. The Dresser roller is out of specifications for the following reasons: 1. Weight -lighter machine by 8% 2. Fly wheel H.P. -under Hyster by 34% 3. Peak Torque -under torque by 27% ~' 4. Maneuverability is less w/hoses sticking out of side, also maintenance on hoses are higher. To replace any one hose requires 10' of line. No modification changes on these hoses has been done for the last 10-15 years. 5. No compatibility w/other machine as for as parts and filters. Defeating purpose of standardization of equipment and making it easier to have parts available. 6. Waukesha Pearce never looked at specs. They found out we were bidding 66" drum and they bid the only one they had in their rental fleet which was in Houston. Salesman has never seen the unit. Salesman did not know what year model it was. 7. The only one around in this areas for me to look at was in Boerne and they use it essentially in the static mode to roll in the seal coat. It is not used as we intend to use it. $ . It has a maintenance problem with grommets due to its design. ._ Therefore, it is my recommendation to accept the bid from Anderson Equipment for both units for a total price of $71,640.00.
