M. AND COMMISSIONERS' COURT CUNVENED IN A WORKSHOP on allocation of office space. Commissioner Holekamp introduced Joe Stevenson, a local architect, who had donated his time to the County to draw a diagram of a possible solution to relocating several offices. He feels this solution would not require a big capital outlay at one time and would utilize space we have as best we can. He suggested enclosing the parking area underneath the Courthouse and in phase 1, move the Tax AssessorfCollector's Office to the right side of the new offices underneath; move the Sheriff's Uffice to the back of the present office of the Tax Assessor/Collector's Office, and the County Coutt at Law clerks to the front of the present Tax Office near the County Court at Law. In phase "~, move the County Clerk's Office to the left side of the new offices underneath, and build two PAGE 98 ,_ t2) new district courts, a jury offices- in the current County phases the District Glerk's Sheriff's vacated offices, the Judge would move upstairs to Office. room and District Judges Clerk's Office. In future Office would move into the Commissioners and the County the vacated District Glerk's Frances Kaiser, Sheriff, was not happy with the location of her office. She said Mr. Stevenson had not talked to her about what she had or what she would need, and the office space alloteci to her in his presentation would not be near large enough. Paula Rector', Ta:c Assessor/Collector, was not happy with t,er counter space tieing cut, as the office she now occupies was built to suit the specific needs of separating the tax collection counter from the auto registration counter. S'he also informed the Court that the Highway Uepartment was already in the p~.-ocess of going out Sor Dids fot installing special computers in her office which would tie her office to Austin. The State will pay for it the way it stands now; but, any changes made will be at the counties expense. Linda Uecker, District Clerk, said she had a problem with storage space now and the move would not give her as much room as she presently has. Mr. Stevensor, said it would give her more. She suggested if the Commissioners and the County Judge move upstairs, then move the Treasurer into their vacated offices and that would give both her and the Treasurer more room. Mr. Stevenson would not comment on that at tt,e present time. L>orothy Hilburn, County Treasurer, said she liked the plan submitted by Commissioner Lackey in December of moving the Sheriff's Office underneath. That would involve fewer offices, ar,d less computer hardware to be moved. The Sheriff agreed that she preferred that plan as her office would be closer to the Jail. David Motley, County Attorney, said he had six (6) people working in an office space o4 565 square feet. He needs more rourn, preferrably in the Courthouse, but anywhere with more space would be nice. Judge Stacy said tt,e Court would look at everyone's opinion and input. The next step would be for the Court to go over both plans and decide wt,ich one to use. COMMISSIONERS' COURT WORKSHOP ADJOURNED at 2:53 P. M. FACE 9`~
