When we checked on the appropriate hours to allow on their time sheets for vacation pay, we were informed that they must complete this year, the 21st yeaz, before they are allowed the additional week of vacation time. I ask that you clarify the wording of the attached Personnel Policy 8.03. Tell us if the 20 days per year of vacation time begins being logged on the time sheet on the 20th anniversary date. Or, should we wait until they have completed 21 yeazs of service? II. 00 LEAVE TIt4E 8.01 Leave Time. Leave time is time during normal working hours in DEFINITIONS which an employee does not engage in the performance of fob `" duties. Leave dine may be either paid or unpaid. Holidays are days designated by the commissioners court when county offices are closed on what would otherwise be regular business days. Unauthorized Absence. An unauthorized absence occurs when an employee is absent from regular duty without the permission of the appropriate elected official or department head. Employees are not paid for unauthorized absences, and such absences are cause for disciplinary action. 8.02 All leave taken by county employees must be approved by the ap- APPROVAL OF LEAVE propriate elected official or department head. Sick Leave Approval. Approval of sick leave for nonemergency medical, dental, or optical appointments must be secured in advance. In all other instances of use of sick leave, the employee must notify his or her supervisor as early as practical on the first day of absence and request that approval of sick leave be granted. 8.03 VACATION LEAVE Jilected Officials' and Department Heads' Responsibility for Verification. Elected officials and department heads are responsible for determining that leave time is accrued and available for use in the amounts requested by an employee.
