ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: 1. Reoo,T its to: Director of Environmental Health. 2. Dir May supervise employees. 3. Other: Will perform other duties as assigned and/or required to maintain department operations. Work involves investigating reports of animal bites and stray animals, administering and enforcing rabies and animal controls as defined and described in the Rabies and Animal Control Order and the Texas Health and Safety Code. Work is performed within established procedures and policies involving sound judgment and initiative. All aspects of work performed is under the direct supervision of the director. The Animal Control Officer will be required to be on cal{ after normal working hours for bites and emergency situations. Investigate ca11s regarding possible exposure to rabies. Answer bite related calls. Answer complaints regarding stray or unrestrained dogs and cats. Coordinate and oversee procedures for registration, quarantine, impoundment, and detention of animals. Prepare and submit reports and records of work performed. May include collection, assembly and analyzing date and/or statistics. Maintain records which will track registrations, investigation, complaints, bite cases, and funds. Communicate and coordinate with county veterinarians and animal shelter regarding rabies and animal control concerns. Provide information, educated, and promote public awareness regarding rabies and animal control. Enforce rabies and animal control order to secure corrections including filing charges for violations. Perform job duties within requirements established be Kerr County Personnel Policies and administrative procedures. Completes on-going training in the form of courses, meetings, seminars, home study courses, etc. to maintain certification and improve job performance. Knowledge of state statutes, codes and rules pertaining to rabies control and animal control. Ability to deal tactfully with the public; including difficult people and emotional situations. Express balanced judgment especially in evaluating situations, be self-starting and show initiative; organize work, be attentive to detail, and complete forms fully and accurately. ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Graduation from high school or G. E. D. Basic certification in animal control as required by the Texas Department of Health. CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: Valid Texas Drivers License with good driving record. Basic and Advanced Animal Control Officer certification (obtained after starting work). Good health and physical condition to -move freely by vehicle and on foot to locations and on unlevel terrain. Must be able to lift and handle animals.
