We do not want to give up that right by allowing someone else to place a sign on our property. We are under no obligation whatsoever to advertise for surrounding landowners. If advertising for private businesses was allowed on Kerr County property, who would decide and at what fee? It would have to be some kind of competitive bidding situation or lottery and at a price schedule at or above private advertising companies. We do not think this is a proper governmental function. Regarding the sign; why was it removed, why was I not consulted, and, finally, why (with a yard full of tax payer furnished equipment and a large crew of•tax payer hired employees) were you unable to remove a simple two posted sign without destroying it? There are facts you may not be aware of regarding th.e original installation. 1. It was approved by tnE Commissioner and its design was IAW his request. 2. The approval was based on the fact that the County controls all the land contiguous to the Hiway 27/Spur 100 intersection, so that I could not lease space from a private source to direct pa~{ons to my location, which is the only public driving range in Kerr County. 3. The sign has been in that location approxiap.mately seven years. During that time period no one, State, County, or otherwise, has ever suggested it was, in any way, obtrusive, dangerous, or illegal. My business is hurt when my potential customers are confused or annoyed when they are unable to locate us. I direct a number of your patrons to your new location, since your address is on Spur 100. I have tried to determine why the sign was removed. The responsible ~ person or persons failed to respond to my requests. I've asked gyp. ~ myself a number of questions: a) Was it a traffic hazard? ~P ~'p Our aim is to sell so that the person wil! return & not the thing. ~P ~~ ~;~~~,~, ~t ~~~~~~~ ~~ ~~~ Obviously not. Your sign extends much further into the State right-of-way. b) Is there a State law against commerical enterprises being advertised on Hiway right-of-way? Apparently not. I see signs directing people t~ race tracks, Sea World, motels, restaurants, service stations, etc. Since I am unable to determine any valid reason for the removal of this unobtrusive sign, I must assume the decision was arbitrary. The timing of its removal is especially bad for my business. I am hosting a 10th Anniversary celebration 8 & 9 Oct. It will be difficult for first-time pate ores to ivcatc the Rargo and ProShop--unless you relocate the sign. If you have detected from the tone of this letter that I am not happy with the shabby treatment I've received (the sign was dumped on public land) your preception is correct. You owe me, and all the citizens you serve, better than I received. I respectfully request that my sign be repaired or replaced and reinstalled at a mutually acceptable location along your Hiway 27 property line. I would appreciate this being done before 8 Oct. Please contact me at your earliest convenience. I'm not hard to find. I'm your neighbor---you know, one of those fellows who would like to be treated as you would like to be.
