l ITEM NO. 2. 1@ Mr. Holland addressed the Court requesting for Commissioners' Court to urge the Court to approve a resolution requesting State Representative Harvey Hilderbran to provide enabling legislation authorizing the Kerr County elector^ate to vote on acceptance of a 1\4 cent sales tax for- offsetting the amortization cost of financing a Jail/Justice Center. Commissioner Holekamp spoke with Bob Bearden of the Comptroller's Office and spoke of his hesitance of sales taxes being raised. The City of Ingram are at there cap and they would have to reduce their taxes to a lower^ rate if this were to happen. Commissioner Holekamp would like to wait to see if the legislation is going to come up with something to relieve the Counties of this burden before we sign a resolution state that taxes would go up. It is inevitable that we are in need of a jail but I feel we have to wait. Mr•. Holland stated that if we didn't sign this resolution that it would take even longer before we would be able to send the resolution to Legislation. Commissioner Lehman agreeded with Commissioner- Holekamp on waiting and said that maybe in the Spring or Summer- we could ~, have some affirmative action if the legislation had not come with a solution.
