COMMISSIONERS' COURT CONVENED IN SPECIAL WORKSHOP' SESSION ON Wednesda, September 8, 1993 with all Officers present and the following pr^oceedings were had: Alsea•1 Item No. 2.17 Consider Jail Site proposals and jail related problems. Commissioner Lackey, and Commissioner Oehler^ met with the City of Ker^r^viile and the City agreed to let the County have the proper^ty on Laop 534. The Committee will meet again and have things worked out. We should be having a meeting with the City and Co~_rnty together next weel: sometime. Mayar- Herring stated we should both have legal council at the meeting to establish ,joint agreewent. Mayor Herring wants to work with the County. We really don't want to spend S14@,@0Qi for• a smoke removal system if we intend to build a jail, this is set for September 9, 1993 at 5:15 F'. M. and we would like the County Attorney to sit in on the meeting. Everything needs to be ready for• Tuesday September 14, 1993. Commissioner- Holekamp stated he had talked to the City Manager for the platting of the property and gettving the elevations and have and Idea of where it wo~.ild sit. The building wo~_ild Ge near^ the front of the property and we would still have about 12 to 16 acres across the back. We should have some idean of funding the new jail to present to the jail commission. We will need the cast for C.O.'s and ar^chitect. Commissioner Oehler stated that Pob Henderson would probably go for^ C.d.'s It is tough either way you go. It think the public r^ealize's that we neetl a jail. COMMISSIONERS' RECESSED RT 9:15 A. M. Mr^. F-looi;er- gave a brief talk on the experience of he and his co-worker. They pr^esented the Court with some plans and a book of jails they have built and are working facilities. They pr^esented a sketch from the Navar-ro Cattnty Jail Facility beca~.ise of their pap~alation being so close to Ker^r County population. Thei.r^ main .job is to build jails, cast efficiently.
