COMMISSIONERS' COURT CONTINUED IN SF~EGIRL SESSION ON Tuesday,
October- i9, 1993 from recessing on Monday, October 18, 1993
with all Officers present and the following proceedings were
had:
Rn open meeting was held with the Court and Sam Junkins of
Schreiner College. The Judge explained to Mr•. Junkins where
we were in a site selection for the Law Enforcement Facility,
The City of Kerrville is no longer- going to be included with
the Counties plans. We ar•e really trying to do with the
facility we have but the 5t ate has mandated so many things on
the County that we are left with no other solution other than
to build a new 6~_~ilding. The intention of the Court would 6e
to sit the facility on the property that we co~_~Id keep some
of the nat~_iral boundar-ies. Mr. Junkins stated he had talked
to the trustees of Schreiner College and it woi_ild not be
their- choice to have a .j~.istice center- next to the school. I
would stand firmly on the letter that was sent to you some
weeks ago that what ever- decision the County makes the
trustees will wor^k with the County all that they can. As far
as we ar•e concerned we are not going to make a lot of noise
about the issue. They only reason we are hear- today is to
clear- some things up with the Court and to let the Co~_irt know
that we were not responsible for- the article in the paper
some weeks ago. If this iss~.~e appeared we felt that we
needed to take a stand. There are several r^easons why we
don't want it there we had hoped that some of this property
could have been used for m~_ilti-family dwellings in the
f~.it~_ire. The Judge stated we ar•e under the gun to build a
facility from the Jail Commission. Mr•. Junkin asked why the
pr•oper•ty oat at the Ag Par-n could not be used for this
purpose? The answer being the Rg Par•n is used for the youth
group in the area. We are wanting to make a convention
center to bring more attractions to Kerr County. Mr. Junkins
stated where their present maintainence area is the proposed
site for additional dormitories for the school and just felt
that a .justice center near by would not be good. I still
think the trustees would say no but if the County felt that
this would be the only site available the tri_rsteas would work
with the Co~.inty. The meeting recessed at 1Q:30 R.M.
