Howard Holliman of the Probation Dept. has agreed to let us have the use of a computer terminal only to be installed in the Courtroom. This will benefit their department as well as ours. A computer in the courtroom can save MANY hour of the criminal deputies time. Instead of putting everything on paper in the form of notes in the courtroom, then bringing it back to the office and entering it on computer, printing notices and issuing arrest warrants, etc., this could all be done in one step in the courtroom. At the end of pretrial the main task would already be done. It would also make retrieving information about this or a companion case much more efficient and timely. Also the jury selection process would be streamlined for the same reason. All excuses etc. must be manually recorded, returned to the office to input on the computer before an electronically selected challenge or seating list can be produced. This process would also be more accurate. ORDER NO. 22219 APPROVAL OF INSTALLA`iTON OF TERMI~' IN THE DISTRICT COURTROOM August 23,1994 Vol T, Page 542
