Memorandum ~ // ~~ I ~) \~/ To: Kerr County Commissioners' Court From: David Motley Date: December 13, 1995 Subject: Backup for agenda item requested for next session of Commissioners' Court I was previously was told, in open court, that due to the planned renovation to the courthouse, our offices would be moved in the Spring to the minimum security jail facility for a temporary time period. Recently, I was advised by Judge Denson that this move was to be a permanent one. Naturally, this change in plans raises some questions in my mind which I need to address to a properly-convened session of the Court. I have never really seen the facility with an eye towards determining the suitability for our purposes. What other uses are to be made of this facility and by which other occupants? If there are to be other occupants, we have some important security issues which must be addressed. Obviously, a large dormitory-type of room with open personal hygiene facilities doesn't lend itself to the professional practice of law. Also, it is necessary for us to have some separated work areas. I need to know what financial arrangements have been or will be made to accomplish needed modifications to the space. I also need to know the anticipated time for our move so that we can make it as efficient a move as possible with a minimum of disruption to the functions of this office. I have recently made three routine maintenance requests which have neither been addressed nor acknowledged by Mr. Feagan. They do need to be completed in a timely fashion regardless of our relocation plans. However, if the move is to be after February 29, 1996, then we have some deferred maintenance, which will also need to be addressed. We did request certain of these items to be done well over a month ago and have seen no effort to actually accomplish these chores other than a referral to the Commissioners' Court where same were apparently vetoed.
