We propose to excavate 6" of existing topsoil and Sll 12" of compacted backfill. The pad will be 90'x 50'. We propose to fiunish a concrete slab with standard 12"x 24" grade beams and reinforcing bars. The form would be 6" above the pad with the grade beams extending down 1'-6". We will have a 16"x 10' deep drilled footing at each column location. The metal building will haue 2 commercial gazage doors and 2 walk doors. The building structure will be apre-engineered metal building with metal siding. The lighting will be attached to the perlins. We have anticipated that power will be provided from the jail by others. We haue included two duplex receptacles in the building for service operations. The garage doors and walk doors will be factory white and will not be repainted. We have not included any other painting or Snishes. We haue not included any sidewalks or driveways. We propose to complete the structure in 90 calendaz days from release. SCOPE: The building shall include all primary and secondary structural framing members, connection bolts, covering, skylights, windows, doors, flashing, fasteners, closures, sealer, insulation and other miscellaneous items as shown or called for on the Drawings and/or in the Specifications. 2.00 PRODUCTS AND PROCEDURES A. DESCRIPTION: Clear span building Type GC-Clear Span as manufactured by Mid-West Metallic; Varco-Pruden; or Whirlwind. B. BUILDING NOMENCLATURE: 1. The building width and length shall be measured from inside to inside face of ~he wall covering. 2. The building eave height shall be measured from the bottom of the base plate of the rigid frame columns to the intersection of lines representing the inside of the wall covering and the inside of the roof covering. Refer also to the Drawings. 3. The roof slope shall be 1" of rise for each 12" of horizontal run. 4. The bay spacing between intermediate frame centerlines shall be as shown on the Drawings. C. DRAWINGS AND CERTIFICATION: The building manufacturer shall furnish (3) complete sets of erection drawings showing anchor bolt settings, sidewall, endwall, and roof framing, transverse cross-sections, covering and flashing details, all loads, reactions, accessory installation details to clearly indicate the proper assembly of all building parts, and other information required for the complete installation of this work. These D. DESIGN: 1. All structural steel members shall be designed for those sections of the following listed codes as considered applicable, by the building manufacturer, as related to design requirements and allowable stress: A.I.S.C. "Specification for the Design, Fabrication and Erection of Structural Steel for Buildings"; A.I.S.I. "Specification for the Design, Fabrication and Erection of Cold-Formed Structural Members for Buildings"; M.B.M.A. "Recommended Design Practices Manual"; and A.W.S., D1.1 "Structural Welding Code". Design Loads: a. Roof live loads shall be applied to the horizontal roof projection and shall be 25 psf, acting upward and downward. PRE-ENGINEERED METAL BUILDING Page 13600-2 b. The design wind pressure shall be 30 psf applied to the primary framing and to the wall components, in accordance with the "Recommended Design Practices Manual of the Metal Building Manufacturer's Association (MBMA), and shall be calculated acting inward and outward normal to the plane. E. STRUCTURAL FRAMING: 1. General: a. All framing members shall be shop fabricated for bolted field assembly. Field cutting or drilling, when required, shall be clearly noted on the Drawings. b. Primary structural framing shall include the transverse rigid frame, wing unit rafter beams and columns, canopy beams, intermediate columns, end bearing framed, endwall columns, and wind bracing. c. Secondary structural framing shall include the purlins, girts, eave struts, flange bracing, sill support, clips, and other miscellaneous structural parts. d. All hot rolled steel sheet, plate, and strip used in the fabrication of welded assemblies shall conform to the requirements of ASTM A-529, A-572, A-441, or A-570 Grade "E" with a 50 ksi yield as applicable. All hot roll sheet and strip used in the fabrication of cold-formed members shall conform to the requirements of ASTM A-570 Grade "E" except for the following: thicknesses .050" to .097" shall have a minimum yield strength of 55,000 psi and a minimum tensile strength of 67,500 psi; thicknesses of .098" to .130" shall have a minimum yield strength of 55,000 psi and a minimum tensile strength of 65,000 psi; and thicknesses .131" to .229" shall have a minimum yield strength of 50,000 psi and a minimum tensile strength of 62,500 psi. Smooth round bars for diagonal rod bracing shall conform to the requirements of ASTM A-572, Grades 60 or 65. e. Cold-formed sections shall be manufactured by precision roll or brake forming. All dimensions shall be true, and the formed member shall be free of fluting or buckling. f. All shop connections shall be by welding in accordance with those sections of the American Welding Society, Structural welding Code, AWS D1.1, considered by the building manufacturer to be applicable as related to metal building shop fabrication welders and welding operations. All flange to web welds shall be continuous submerged arc partial penetration fillet welds on one side of the web. Other welds shall be by either the gas metal, submerged or shielded arc process. Butt welds in flange plates shall be full penetration. g. All field connections shall be bolted. Bolts shall be machine bolts conforming to ASTM A-207 or ASTM A-325 as PRE-ENGINEEEc.../ METAL BUILDING Page 13600-3 shown on Drawings. A-325 bolts shall be tightened by the turn-of-the-nut method. Where required, connections in secondary members shall be made with special 1/2" oval head bolts with hex nuts. The fraying surfaces of all bolted connections shall be smooth and free from burrs or distortions. All bolts shall be electro-zinc plated. h. All framing members shall carry an easily visible identifying mark, either stamped, stenciled or painted. 2. Rigid Frames: All members shall be welded, built-up "I" shapes, either constant-depth or tapered. 3. Bearing End Frames: Bearing end frames shall consist of columns at the building corners and a continuous "Z" shaped rafter beam supported by the endwall columns. 4. Endwall Columns: Shall be cold-formed "C" sections or welded built-up "I" shapes. 5. Purlins and Girts: Shall be roll-formed 8", 10" or 14" deep "Z" sections, with stiffened flanges. The sections are formed so as to permit nesting during shipping and when marking overlapping continuous connections. Girts shall be roll formed "Z" sections or cold-formed "C" sections. 6. Eave Struts: Shall be "C" section formed so as to provide adequate backup for both roof and wall panels at the building eave. 7. wind Bracing: when required, shall consist of diagonal rod bracing and shall be provided in both roof and sidewall. Double roof purlins interconnected by diaphragms, shall be provided between the rigid frames at all points of attachment of diagonal roof bracing. Fixed base corner columns or other suitably designed bracing may be used in lieu of sidewall rod bracing. Wind bracing in the roof and/or sidewall need not be furnished where it can be shown that the diaphragm strength of the roof and/or wall covering is adequate to resist the longitudinal wind forces. 8. Flange Bracing: The inside flange of all rigid frames shall be braced laterally so that the allowable compressive stress is adequate for any combination of loading. 9. Sill Support: A continuous member shall be provided to which the base of the wall covering may be attached. This member shall be: a. A continuous 18 gauge, coating designation G-165, galvanized tube like, roll-formed member cast integrally with the concrete foundation. b. A 14 gauge galvanized angle secured to the concrete floor with adjustable galvanized clips anchored with hooked bolts. l0.Framed Openings: Structural framing members for all openings shall be adequate for the specified design loads. PRE-ENGINEER~;D METAL BUILDING Page 13600-4 11. Painting: All primary and secondary structural framing shall have factory-applied shop primer paint. F. ROOF AND WALL COVERING: 1. General: The extent of metal roofing, frames, flashing and accessories as shown on the Drawings, and includes furnish~.ng and installing the following: a. Metal roof and wall panels b. Zee beams, Cee beams, and other light gauge framing c. Insulation d. Thermal spacers e. Matching trim and roof accessories f. Gutters which include downspouts at each column with required flashing at roof edge. 2. Design Loads: a. The basic design loads shall include live and wind loads in addition to dead load. All other design loads, whether they be of static, dynamic, or kinetic nature, shall be considered as auxiliary loads. b. Vertical Live Loads: Roof covering shall be designed for 20 psf uniformly distributed over the entire roof area. Provision shall be made for added roof loads resulting from other than normal loading. c. Wind Loads: The roof construction shall carry a UL construction (uplift) rating of not less than Class 90. d. Combination of Loads: The combining of normal loads and auxiliary loads for design purposes shall be as prescribed and recommended by the Metal Building Manufacturer's Association "Design Practices Manual", current issue. 3. Metal Panels: a. Profile: 1-1/4" high longspan panel at 36" o.c. b. Finish: Prefinished roof and wall panels as per manufacturer's standard; color as selected by Architect. c. Manufacturers: Mid-West Metallic; Varco-Pruden; Whirlwind. d. Metal Roofing System: (1) Panels shall be of longspan die formed ridge design. The formed ridge shall have afield-applied, non-hardening sealant, and the laps shall be secured with self-tapping screws with neoprene washers during erection. Fasteners shall be diameter and length as recommended by manufacturer. (2) Deflection of the roof panels shall not exceed L/180 for the specified loading. (3) Secure roof panels to structure with approved fasteners. PRE-ENGINEERc,.~ METAL BUILDING Page 13600-5 (4) Provide all accessories required including neoprene closures, flashing, sealants, etc. (5) Secure mansard and all panels with stainless steel weather-seal screws. 4. Guarantee: a. Roof and Wall Panels: 20-year weather-tightness guarantee. b. Prefinished panel paint system finishes shall be guaranteed for 20 years against fading, chalking, chipping, cracking or flaking. 5. Framing and Other Accessories: a. Steel Purlins: Cold-formed Zee and Cee sections, normally 2-1/2" x 8" x 2-3/4" Zee .064" minimum thick steel, having a minimum yield point of 36,000 psi spaced no greater than 5'-0" o.c. b. Roof Openings: Provide the manufacturer's standard accessories and flashing for all roof penetrations. c. All flashing, gutters, downspouts and related flashings shall match the roof panels and be formed from same manufacturer's material. d. Sealants: Field applied in panel's longitudinal formed ridge and at the building's ridge in an extrudable, non-drying, non-skinning synthetic elastomer material conforming to NAAMM Standard SS-la-68. e. Roof and Wall Insulation: Shall be non-combustible fiberglass blanket with vinyl facing, 3" thick. 6. Installation: Install in strict accordance with approved shop drawings and the manufacturer's recommendations. G. BUILDING ANCHORAGE: The building anchor bolts and related anchorage shall be designed tq resist the column reactions resulting from the specified loading combinations. The sizes and design shall be as specified by the building manufacturer. H. WARRANTIES: The building manufacturer shall furnish written warranties covering materials and workmanship. Such warranties shall cover the full cost of materials and labor to replace and/or repair defective materials. J. PRIOR APPROVAL FOR SUBSTITUTIONS: Request for approval to substitute materials, methods, or processes shall be made to Architect no later than (5) working days prior to date for submission of subcontract proposals to general contractors, and if found acceptable, will be confirmed by an Addendum to the Construction Documents. Where proposed substitutions are NOT incorporated into the Construction Documents by Addendum PRIOR TO the General Contract Bid Opening, all bids shall be held to have been made on the basis of materials, methods and processes required by the Construction Documents.
