A t the UGRA board meeting today there was considerable discussion regarding the
significant silting problems existing at the main Kerrville city lake. There seemed to
be broad support for considering a coordinated program to clean out some or all of
the public lakes in Kerr county. It was mentioned that an application for state
funds to support the program might be appropriate.
Whether or not the county wide program is practical it seems appropriate for
Pct. 4 to initiate a program for Ingram Lake, considering tftat over the years we
have established an appropriate method of draining the lake, an efficient location
next to the lake to deposit the spoils of clean out, and a core group of property
owners willing to support and assist on a regular basis.
Since a clean out once every 20 years or so creates additional problems making the
silt removal even more difficult, it seems practical to set up an annual clean out and
maintenance program such that the lake would be drained each year during the first
week in January, routine clean out done, and the drain plug replaced during the
first week in February. With an approved regular annual program such as this both
government ,public, and private interests could plan and coordinate effectively.
This subject has been discussed often over the past years since the lake was last
drained and I am now requesting that you lead an effort to establish an on going
program that will insure Ingram Lake to be a safe, clean, pleasant, and fully usable
area each season when it is so heavily used. At the same time I am offering to assist
in any way you think helpful.
