DATE: FEBRUARY 2, 1996
SUBJECT: Accounting and deposit of fees for adoptions at
the Animal Control Facility.
The Rabies & Animal Control program allows for the adoption of cats and dogs.
The current fee of $45.00 covers the costs of neutering, vaccination, and registration.
Currently the fees received are deposited into account #10-370-231.
The expenses are taken from the operating expense line item of the animal facility budget
#10-642-330.
This arrangement is depleting the operating expense line item.
Action requested from Commissioners Court is to:
1) establish a specific line item for adoptions where fees received can be deposited
and expenses can be debited.
2) Some of the adoption fees already collected this fiscal year be credited to the
operating expense line item. As of January 19, 1996 these fees are $3,914.00.
3) A starting amount $500.00 be put into the new adoption line item to cover
adoptions in process and contingencies such as billing overlap and delays in pay-
ments.
The Texas Health and Safety Code allows for fees to be collected/and used to defray costs.
