The following is a summary of the pet owner's responsibilities. Please remember that these requirements are based on State Law and are for the health and safety of the pet owner. the animal, and the pubfic. ..-. 1. All dogs and cats must be vaccinated for rabies. 2. The rabies tag must be worn try the animal. 3. All dogs and cats must be registered yearly. This may be done at the same time when the animal is vaccinated. Fees with a copy of rabies vacanation cert- ificate must be paid to the Kerr County Animal Control (KCAC) located at 4000 San Antonio Idighway, Kenrvt~le. Fees are 52.00 per year for neutered animals and 55.00 per year for non-neutered animals. 4. Vaccination certificates and registration must be submitted to KCAC. It is the responsibility of the pet owner to make sure it is done. 5. If an animal bites a person it must be reported to KCAC. ,The owner must allow thc animal to be placed in a 10-day quarantine for observation. 6. All costs associated with quarantine, observation, vaccination, registration, testing, impoundment, and final disposition for the animal must be paid by the owner. Fees are paid separately to ffie v+ett~ the holding fac>7ity, and to KCAC. 7. All dogs and cats must be restrained to prevent them from Homing at large. This helps prevent possibilities of bites, keeps the animals from becoming a nui- sance, and reduces possible rabies exposure from wildlife biting the animal 8. Costs for impoundment must be paid before the dog or cat is released. Surrender- ing or euthatrizing the animal does not relieve the owner of the responsibility of P~8'costs. A violation of this order is a Class C misdemeanor punishable by a fine up to 5500. Proper care of your pet is a benefit to you and everyone by reducing exposure to rabies, preventing bites, reducing nuisances, better animal health, and reduced costs associated with problem pets. As you will recall, I was allowing my dogs to run off the leash when you drove right up to us, and your dog immediately leaped out of the pickup and attacked my dog. After we had separated them, and I had my dog on the leash and was preparing to leave the area, your pit bull circled around and again attacked my dog, this time from behind resulting in severe lacerations on both shoulders and on her back. As I held my dog and attempted to separate the two, you stood watching, making no attempt to assist me. The fact that you made no effort to assist me or to restrain your dog makes you legally liable for the damages, in this case a veterinary bill in the amount of $101.00. When I approached you on Sunday, September 18, and asked you to reimburse me for at least part of this expense, you refused. At that time your dog was again loose, and during our conversatio_ repeatedly circled my car, trying to get in to my dog and you again made no effort to restrain or to control her in any way. I am asking you again, to reimburse me rather than forcing me to pursue legal action, and I am also asking you sincerely to make an effort to control your vicious pit bull before she injures another dog or perhaps a child. ~ / /~ 'L~~ v HOEGEMEYER ANIMAL CLINIC 1516 Sidney Baker Kerrville, Texas 78028 896-6507 JAMES F.
