Cat 3306 engine continues its tmdi~ion of powerfuh efficiem performance and unmatched rdiabilliy and durability. The six-cylinder engine is naturally aspirated wqh a high displacement-to- horsepower ratio. Thix large displacement produces better lugging cupuhility. lower internal stresses and longer cnmlx>nent lift. Superior lugging performance. High torque output and high toryuc rise make the 3306 engine very rexpunsive. The engine's lugging capability allows it to pull through sudden, short-term increases in lauds, reducing the need to downshift. As a result the operxtnr can muinutin consistent, desirubic working speeds, which means the work gels done faster. Fuel efficiency. High fuel injection pressure.e ensure proper mixing of fuel and air. This high injection pressure. coupled with the precise metering and timing of the fuel injection, results in superior fuel efFiciency and reduced emissions. High compression ratios ensure dependable cold-stoning performance and low emissions. Long engine life. The large bore-stroke design and conservative power rating help minimize internal stresses and increase component life. The low engine speeds reduce engine wear and sound levels. Power shiktransmissien. Caterpillar designs and builds transmissions specifically far Cat momr graders. The Iran mission provides on-the-go, full- power shifting as well as "inching capability. Direct drive delivers superior fuel efficiency and better "feel" of blade loads, material hardness and ground speed. Gear selections. Eight forward speeds and six reverse speeds give the operator a wide operating range. With four gear selections below 6 mph, the operator can precisely match wurk'mg speeds lojob ronditions for maximum productivity in carthmrving applications. Gears five, six and seven provide the optimal speed range for efficient snow removal operations. Electronic transmission control produces easy, smooth shifts, which enable the operuorto maintain uniform surfaces if shifting is required. Smooth shits also extend the life of tl>e transmission by placing less stress on Transmission clinches. A single lever controls direction, speed and the parking brake. Inching capability. l.ow pedal cffon and excellent modulation provide precise control of machine movements when using [he inching pedal. This is especially imponani in finish grading or other close-yu;mer work where machine control is critical. Electronic overspeed protection helps prevent engine and transmission damage from premature downshifting and grade-induced overspeeding. 1 Oil-disc brakes. Caterpillar desigm and builds multi-dint brakes that are completely sealed and adjusiment- free. The brakes are oil-bathed, aio- actuated and spring-released. They ure located at each tandem wheel m elim~mate braking loads on the prwer train and to speed up servicing. The large brake surface provides dependablebrakingeapability and lung life before rebuild. Dual air system supplies oinking cupuciry to each side of the machine. This system ensures secondary braking capability in the event a failure occurs in a single brake line. The dual air system also has a large reserve for stalled-engine braking. y~s trt 1 ~~ Jt ~"~, n +,~ Hydr~tIrald;t•s delivt,,. consisielir gal •~- p'.t'`•ise trod responsive t'onb-af. .---, eratar eftoA. tmPle ~ or fatigue low op ed to reduce oQe nd low are design short lover throws a ~1ey ieamr h directions. Low efforts on all pedals, hydraulic controls end the imnsmission shifter rcdure operator strain and fatigue. Pedals are angled and raised off the cab Moor m make Them easy ro reach. Roomy interior. Estru leg and hxrt nxrm ceae a spacious, npeu cab. The cab includes butte-in stortge space (or personal items such ;ts a lunch box. cooler and coat. Optional contour series suspension seat features fold-up umuesls and u Ircclable seat belt. The scut follows the contours of your body and can be easily adjusted for optimal support and eomfnn. Seat controls are located in from and to the left of the operator in plain view. Optional air conditioner and heater arrangements create a comfortable work environmem fur the operator. Both arrangements use high-capacity systems to ensure the operaor slays productive -Been in the bitter cold or heat ;md humidity. They dehumidify the air as well as pressurize the cub, which keeps the air fresh ,toll seals out dust. I'he adjustable air vents evenly distribute air throughout the cab, keeping [he npernuxaimfimahle and the windows clear of fug ar frost. Electronic Monitoring System checks imptmant machine systems and provides the operator with three levels of warnings. Comfort and convenience are designed into Beery feature: ^ Engine swirl-stop switch enables the operator to start and stop engine with n simple key tam. ^ The fuel. air pressure and oil temperature gauges are kxuled inside the cub, directly in from of the operator. ^ Comrola and switches are located on the steering console, shift console and right cab pose -all within easy reach. ^ Rocker switches and transmission shifter are backlit for niehltime operation. • The operator can independently adjust implement comrols and sleeting wheel angle. ^ Cab Floor is Flush with the taurnn of the doors, making it easy to sweep and keep clean. ^ Fresh ah filters are located above e;u h cab door for quick rpluccment. ^ Cab door releases from ground level or inside cab. Easy access to service areas speeds up muimenance and ensures that routine service is performed on time. ^ Large hinged doors are standard and provide easy access to the engine and radiator service points. Spin-off oil filters can he changed quickly. + Lubrication paints for the articulation joint are remote mounted. • Disconnect switch and air cleaner are located on the leftside, making them easy to access when a snow wing is mounted nn the right .tide of the machine, • Fuse panel is located inside the cab. Its cover clearly identifies circuits and fuse sizes. ^ Tandem oil check point is conveniently located between the wheels in the center of the tandem. • Service meter is located on the left side of the steering console, giving the operator a clear view from the ground. Power train cnmpeeents teacart a modulo[ do ign so you can remove the engine, transmission or final drives independently for quicker servicing. Diagnostic capabilities offer fast servicing of the startingcharging system and transmission. Diagnostic tool-connection plugs allow these systems to be checked quickly and easily. The transmivsion's elearonic control moduli automatically records and saves any system faults for later analysis. XT hose. Caterpillar designs and manufactures its own heavy-duty XT hose and installs it in all high-pressure circuits. Its reaistunce to abrasions, coupled with its exceptional strength and flexibility, help minimize maintenance and extend life. and are used in all hydraulic circuits to minimize the possibility of oil leaks. Separate wiring harnesses connect all electrical components. This modular harness design provides simple disconnects for major machine repairs or rebuilds. The wires are also color- codedand numbered to speed up diagnosis and repairs. Sure-Seal connectors are made of weather- resistan[materials that protect against moisture, conasion and abrasion. The ff Series molar graders respond to important environmental problems. Today's machines mn smoother and quieter than ever before. Quiet cab. The sound-suppressed cab has an interior sound level not exceeding 71 d8(AJ when tested using SAE 1919 standards. The rubber- mountedengine and transmission transmit less engine noise and vibrations to the operator. Quiet machine. On the s[anaaru machine, the drive-by exterior sound level will not exceed 82 d8(Al when tested at rated engine speed using SAE JBS standard test. This quiet operation enables the machine to work with minimal disturbance to the surrounding environment. ,,. r .,,_......_. --- filters are designed to minimize spillage. 0-ring face seals, XT hose and Cal hydraulic cylinders protect against leaks.
