TO BE ADDED TO "PART-TIME" SALARY LZNE ITEM FOR REMAINING BUDGET YEAR. While Criminal case load is remaining steady, civil case load has increased tremendously, as much as 50% i'n some types of cases. It is projected that we will conceivably see an 80% increase in cases processed by the Attorney General. We have been fore-warned. This increased activity has also greatly increased the amount child support receipts and disbursements. A child support auditing process has been established. Payments received by 3 pm are audited and must be in the mail by 5 pm. This process has virtually eliminated any errors in disbursing support. It is however time consuming. We process as many as 125 checks and cash per day. As Officer in charge oŁ jury selection our office is processing more juries than before, in addition we have initiated a procedure for all courts except JP courts to require absent jurors to answer a warning, contempt and an attachment for failure to appear. My part time employee plays a major roll in the performance oŁ these duties. While I'm sure the Court agrees that the necessity exists for staff addition the fact also exists that there is a lack oŁ space for a permanent staff person. My part time employee is a "floater" assisting where needed and working at tables, file cabinets and stations vacated during lunches and vacations, etc. Although this situation has been very inconvenient, I have been able to create a workable environment for this person. Additional duties include but are not limited to: filing all documents in case files, copying required by daily routine or cases appealed, record searches, running errands, folding and mailing jury summons, stuffing and mailing child support checks, and entering date to complete computerization of old indexes. Therefore I am requesting that the court fund this necessity with an additional 51000.00 from "the great fund in the sky" ie: 4 months or 17 weeks or 6 hours per day or 510 hours X SS per hr. = 52550.00 less 1550.00 remaining funds in line item 51000.00 requested Please call iŁ you have and questions regarding this matter at ext. 287.
