Dear Judge Denson, Counh Commissioners Court:

In FY'1496%97 the city of Kerrville applied Kerr County's contribution to the operating expenses at
the Community Recycling Centet towards the casts of an additional employee which allowed
opcratmg hours tip expand frtatn two and one half days to ibu~ full days. `fhe additional hours of
operation leave increased paiticipat~on at the Comrnumty Receding Center t"rem an average of
1,150 vchides per month to over 3,100 in May. Surveys indicate- that that 71 °'o of this participation
are people who live outside the Kerrville City hrnits.
Since April of 1y95, the Community Recycling Center has diverted over 1,000 tons of recycled
material from our landfill. and over halfofthose tons were diverted with the expansion o9~hours and
manpower. The diversion through the Cuimnunity Recycling Center's efforts translate into one
quarter of an acre sacud at the lundfill, and over 555,000.00 in related expenses to the citizens of
Kerr County.
Services have also been expanded at the Center with the addition of NiCad battery and used motor
oil collection. In the past year the Community Recycling Centel received $38,500 in grant funds
from the fesas Natural Resources Conservation Commission and the Alamo Area Council ul'
Governments to purchase additional equipment and paid fur a recycled paint collection on 'Texas
Kecydes Day for all Kerr Cormty residents.
The Kerrville'Kerr County Airport operations budget for FYr37/98 has rcduce;d the funds needed
from Kerr County by $2,000 in a budget year with increased maintenance and construction
activities_ The eih~ of Kerrville looks forward to continuing other joint e~florts with Kerr County to
extend the hfe of the landfill and keep the cost oCsolid vaaste disposal doNr+ for all of Kerr County,
and requests from the County Commissioners $10,000 00 liir operating costs at the Communit}~'
