H•~ i 't:.1~ at ~:? 01 i c. ;: , Memorandum TO: Commissioners' Court FROM: Franklin Johnston, P.E., County Engineer Leonard Odom, Jr., County Road Administrator DATE: February 3, 1997 RE: Street Sign Request On February 14, 1991, the Court approved for us to install private road signs on County right-of--way. In June 1994, the Court said we were responsible for their upkeep. A Mr. Jack Glatthaar was sent to our office from 911 requesting signs for Aqua Vista, a private subdivision. He wanted to purchase approximately 10 signs from us and install them himself. We were unable to answer his questions. Since the sign machine that Ken 911 received from a grant was given to Road & Bridge, we assume that some time in the future we will be expected to do some signing of private roads. .-. Before we can do this, we have several questions that need clarification: 1. Does 911 have a color designation for signs? We currently place a stripe of red reflective tape on the bottom o~the green street blanks for private signs that we install. ~~ C~ .~'}ti-- 2. In Mr. Glatthaar case, he did not want us to install or maintain the signs. How do we know they are installed properly? 3. In the past all signs have been placed on County right-of--way so that we do not have to enter private property. Can we le^gall~y enter private property to work on such signs? ~ ~,-~Y~ s ~~ ~ ~? C~~- 4. ff we make a sign that does not go on County right-of--way, do we replacelmaintain it after installation? `,~~' 5. Who is responsible for the cost incurred in making and installing these signs? The cost and labor would be different for each sign depending upon the length of the name. Memorandum To: Commissioners' Court From: Leonard Odom, Jr. & Franklin Johnston, P.E. Date: Ob/23I1994 Subject: Sign Installed on Non-County Road In April of 1991 the Court agreed to allowed Road & Bridge to install signs on non-county maintained roads at a charge of $70.00 as long as they were on County right-of-ways(see attached memos). We received a request from Delores Powers for a street sign on anon-county road. She had a letter form 911 approving a road name and giving her an address. June 15, 1994, Mrs. Powers paid for the sign, we installed the sign (Powers Place) on the Kerr County right-of--way of Mountain Drive. The neighbor removed it the following day. We ask the Court direct us on the replacement of this sign. v T0: Commissioner's Court FROM: Truby Harden, Kerr County Road & Bridge a,4TE; February 14, 1991 RE: Putting Signs on Non-County Roads The Road & Bridge department has been asked to install signs on roads that are not maintained by the County. I have been told that the sign crew does not sign such roads. However, there are some non-county roads that have Kerr County signs. I ask that you consider this issue so that we might be consistant when answering these requests. To aid you 1n making your decision, I have prepared the following cost estimate per sign.
