ANIMAL CONTROL PROPOSAL C C ~S~i/ a4.~ ~ Pi~y+m_ A DECISION MUST BE MADE PRIOR TO MAY 15, 1998. AS PER OUR CONTRACT. This is a proposal that would have all Animal Control for the City of Kerrville, Center Point and Kerr County performed by Kerr County Animal Control Contract. 2-1 /2 Animal Control Officers with one in the City Limits of Kerrville due to the level of service required and concentration of population of dogs & cats. 1/2 time Animal Control Officer will work during vacation schedules and week-ends on call. This proposal will not only save some Tax dollars, but will be more eflicient_for both Animal Control Officers who are making calls in all directions and to the public that will have only one place to call for animal control. Currently approximately 1/2 of the calls received at the County Facility are City calls which we must then pass to Kerrville Police Dept. If all Anima! Control Officers were working under one entity these duplicate calls could be eliminated. The officers would not be crossingone another due to each knowingwhat area they are working. The need for the 1/2 time Animal Control Officer would serve several purposes: (I) Saturday Animal Control (2) Vacation fill-in for regular Officers (3) Relief of regular Officers to avoid overtime incurred due to night emergency calls. The only "unknown" area of the transition would be P.D. and Sheriff Dispatch and Radio's to be compatible to communicate from the Animal Shelter to all Animal Control trucks. The level of service in the City of Kerrville worild not be reduced. Dead animal pick up can and will be performed on an as called basis. All registrations will be handled and administered by Kerr County, revenues will be retained by Kerr County. Currently the City of Kerrville Animal Control budget is $72, 793.00. Kerr County proposes to furnish all Animal Control for the City of Kerrville for $70,000.00 annually with these one time donations. (1) Two Animal Control Trucks (2) Animal Control Equipment and Supplies. The current inter-local contract between the City of Kerrville and Kerr County has not been adjusted per the contract since the Animal Control Facility was opened in 1995, therefore it is time to make some adjustments and bold changes to make Government work more efficiently.
