Item c.5 Consider- and discuss G!~aar•terly Report from Ron Der•r•ick (1st Responders). (Ron Der•r•ick/Commissioner- ~ F'ct. #ll Described the First Responder- F'r•ogr•am as a volunteer~ organization, composed of certified people from all over- the co~.rnty. Pagers or• radios and bags of medical supplies, purchased by the County, allowing response to life-threatening emergencies. Mr•. Derrick went on to explain the way they determined medical pr•ior•ity dispatch. Requirements pi.tt on these First Responders-no lights, no sirens, and no speeding. These people r•espnnd in their- own vehicles, c4 hours a day, basically, as volunteers. Volunteers have been on the decline, not only here but statewide. Grant money is provided by Texas Dept. of Health, with several grants out seeking funds. Attending or participating in various ways, obtaining Bands to use for equipment to keep the pr•ogr•am on tr•aclt. Rddr•e ssed a problem with new budget for- next year- and possible solutions for- volunteers getting a bit of compensation t,o take care of yas money, clothes etc..other• counties already giving such consideration. Stated that with new technology, the new EMT class starting will be a teleconference class, through U.T. Health Science Center- in San Rntonio through the V.R. Hospital. R11 being in agreement, that it is a great pr•ogr•am. Rdding....level of tr•aininy is hasic, even if .... they ar•e paramedics volunteering, they only can 6e allowed into the pr•ogr•am a+, EMT basic level.. Meaning-no drugs administered. Newspapers ar•e working well with the pr•ogr•am, giving Ball coverage to the community. Stressing the need for• vol~_mteers, manpower is an issue. Item '~.E Consider- and discuss setting a wor•k-shap for- 9-1-1. (Commissioner- F'ct.#1) Commissioner^ Paldwin stated that is years ago the ~egislatur•e laid oat the '~-1--1 F'r•ogr•am, this Court put in the budget $5~,0~0 for a county map and 11 years later still no map. Commissioner• Baldwin saying it's time to sit down in a workshop-type session. Setting January S'~th at :~0 F'. M. as the time and date, with Judge Henneke requesting all pertinent back_yr•ound. Judge Fienneke stating a historical perspective is needed for- the new members of the Co~ar•+„ History, status, and what the next step should he.
