Salary Schedule for Pedro Garcia
Pedro Garcia has been employed with Kerr County Sheriff's
Department since September, 1996. He was promoted from
Shift supervisor (15/3; $20,216 annual) to Administrative
Corrections Supervisor (16/1; $20,216 annual) in March, 1999
with no increase in salary, but with an increase in
responsibilities. Because of merit increases since 1997 and
a 2.5$ across the board raise in October, 1998, his salary
remained the same when promoted.
According to county policy, a new hire cannot be employed at
a higher classification than Step 1 of the group to which
that position belongs, without prior approval of the
Commissioners Court. There is money in the budget to cover
this increase.
I respectfully request that the Administrative Corrections
Supervisor salary be increased by one step, from 16/1
($20,216 annual) to 16/2 ($20,721 annual).

To assist in ensuring that the county jail meets or exceeds the standards established by
the Texas Commission on Jail Standards pertaining to personnel, facilities, supplies and
services; and to perform jailer functions.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
1. Reports to: Jail Administrator/Sheriff.
2. Directs: Supervises jail staff.
3. Other: Has frequent contact with inmates, other sheriff's department
employees, other law enforcement officials, visitors, attorneys and
other representatives of the court and the general public.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
This is a responsible, supervisory position, duties include seeing that directives from the
Sheriff or Jail Administrator are carried out, as well as supervision of jail personnel and
inmates, maintenance of statutory facility standards and receipt and accounting for
funds.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Supervise and/or assist assigned personnel when needed, and/or in the absence of a
shift supervisor.
Supervise and train new employees according to County Jail Policies and Jail
Standards.
Organize and maintain all records and files on inmates.
Update charges as necessary in computer and on inmate board.

Organize all paperwork for disciplinary and grievance boards.
Transport female inmates when needed.

Assures county facility is in compliance with State and Federal guidelines.
Coordinates intake and release of prisoners with other law enforcement agencies.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Communicate, understand and follow both written and oral instructions, departmental
policies, rules, regulations and laws. Establish and maintain effective working
relationships with other law enforcement officers, agencies and the general public.
Analyze situations and adopt a quick, effective and reasonable course of action.
Learn the use of computers and other specialized equipment. Must maintain good
physical condition.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
High school graduation or its equivalent, plus Basic Corrections Officer Certification by
the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.
OR
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required
knowledge, skills and abilities and satisfies State statutes.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

Allie Henderson has been employed with Kerr County Sheriff's
Department since June 1996.
I plan to promote Allie to Jail Shift Supervisor. Because
of longevity and merit increases, her current grade/step is
14/3 (19,242) Promotion to Jail Shift Supervisor,
grade/step 1,x/1 (19,242) would be an increase in
responsibility without an increase in salary.

To assist in organizing, prioritizing and ensuring jail policies and procedures are carried out in an
effective manner pertaining to personnel, facilities, supplies and services; and to perform correction
officer's functions.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

2. Directs: Does supervise employees.
3. Other: Has firequent contact with other departmental employees, Federal and State and Local
Law Enforcement Agencies, inmates and the general public.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
This is a responsible supervisory position. Duties include overseeing all initial processing of prisoners
and subsequent monitoring of all persons assigned to your shift.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Operate computer, entering and processing new prisoners. To complete log sheets, searching prisoners,
collecting their personal belongings and preparing a receipt for them.
Complete necessary paperwork, including medical reports, incident reports and any other related
documents.
Operate control panel for security of jail facility, controlling entering and existing of secured areas
Check perimeter of building at regular intervals to ensure security. Monitor detention cells and jail
facility by camera.
Fingerprint and photograph new prisoners. Fingerprint general public for job applications and Concealed
Weapon applications.
Supervises the storing and dispensing of medications for prisoners, noting appropriate information on
medical report.
Checks the accuracy of all paperwork pertaining to the jail and approve jail facility incident reports.
Prepares necessary paperwork for the release of inmates and ensures that correct security procedures are
followed when inmates are released temporarily or permanently.
Monitors prisoners' activities, i.e. recreation schedule.

Collects money and writes receipts for paid fines, cash bonds and inmate commissary. Reissues money to
inmates being released or transferred.
Controls visitors' access to prisoners and provides security for visitors.
Supervises the feeding of tbe prisoners.

Ensures inmates use proper hygiene.
Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of administration and operation of a detention facility and the statutes, rules and regulations
which affect its operation. Knowledge of criminal and civil law. Supervisory skills and ability to
establish and maintain effective working relationships with numerous Law Enforcement Agencies,
officials attorneys and other representatives of the courts and the general public. Ability to handle
difficult situations among persons of widely divergent backgrounds. Knowledge of accounting and record
keeping procedures. Extensive knowledge of security procedures and techniques. Ability to think and
react quickly and carefully. Ability to use radio and electronic communications equipment. Ability to
effectively communicate orally and in writing. Must maintain good physical condition.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINNG:
High school diploma or its equivalent, plus certification as a Basic Corrections Officer with the Texas
commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education and at least six months experience as a
detention off cer (including some supervisory experience).
