DATE: October 5, 1999 TO: Judge Fred Henneke and Kerr County Commissioners Court FROM: Sheriff hicks RE: Step Increase in Administrative Lieutenant Salary Schedule for Brad Alford Brad Alford has been employed with Ken County Sheriffs Department sincel98.~ October 1, 1999 he was promoted from Administrative Sergeant (20.3; $26,784 annual) to Administrative Lieutenant (21.1; $26,784 annual) with no increase in salary but with an increase in responsibilities According to county policy, a new hire cannot be employed at a higher classification than Step 1 of the group to which that position belongs, without prior approval of the Commissioners Court. I respectfully request that the Administrative Lieutenant salary be increased by 2 steps, from 21.1 (26,784 annual) to 21.3 ($28,140 annual). Kerr County Sheriff s Department JOB DESCRIPTION: Patrol /Administrative Lieutenant CLASS NO. 618 OCCUPATIONAL CATEGORY: Protective Service PAY GROUP: 21 FLSA: Exempt JOB TITLE: Patrol /Administrative Lieutenant OBJECTIVE: To protect county residents and property and to enforce laws as appropriate. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: 1. Reports to: Sheriff and Chief Deputy. 2. Directs: Supervises other deputies and civilian employees of the Sheriff's Department. 3. Other: Has frequent contact with Federal, State and Local Law Enforcement agencies, local officials, community groups and organizations, the media and the general public. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: This is responsible, supervisory position. Duties include preparing and maintaining certain records, pertaining to overall efficiency and operation of the Kerr County Sheriff's Department. EXAMPLES OF_ WORK: Oversee dispatch Oversee patrol Oversee warrants Oversee civil Order equipment Oversee and Participate in inmate disciplinary hearings. Perform thorough background and conduct interviews on prospective employees. May serve warrants and all other court papers involving criminal offenses, as well as civil. B) Distribute information to appropriate agency for investigation. C) Enter all tips into date bank computer. D) File the tips for future reference. E) Attend all meetings of the Crimestoppers. F) Set up and pay tips. TRAFFIC TICKET MANAGEMENT A) Enter all traffic tickets into LEMS system. B) Keep monthly stats on deputies citations and warnings. C) Turn in monthly reports on citations for UCR reports. D) Maintain and file all copies of original citations. Make forms for department. White collar investigations, when needed. Fire arms instructor and keep records. Keep the Sheriff informed on all operations pertaining to your assigned duties. CLASS NO. 618 (con't) REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions, departmental policy, rules, regulations and laws. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other law enforcement agencies and the general public. Ability to analyze situations and adopt quick, effective and reasonable course of action. Ability to learn the use and care of vehicles, firearms and specialized equipment. Must maintain good physical condition. ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: High school graduation or its equivalent, plus Certification as Peace Officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education. Five years experience as a Law Enforcement Officer in the State of Texas. Certified Crimestoppers Coordinator. OR Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities and satisfies state statutes. CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: Peace Officer Certification by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education. Must possess a valid Texas Motor Vehicle Operator's License and have the ability to operate a motor vehicle without any special assistance.
