Consider and Discuss amending 911 Guidelines to delete the street /road name prefix
^ from the street /road name except for duplicate road names.
I continue to be concerned about why the prefix should be part of the actual street or mad
name. In my opinion the prefix has the following negative effects:
1. Costs the county unnecessary expense in changing every street sign in the
county at an estimated expense of over $200,000.
2. Costs residents unnecessary expense to change all addresses in the county.
3. Adds confusion as to street names that go through more than one geo
region.
4. Adds confusion as to street names that are on the boundary of geo regions.
5. Makes it more difficult to create lists of street names in alphabetical order
because all street names would begin with geo region prefix.
6. Uncertainty as to street names that aze in the City of Kemille as they have
raised a concern about using the prefix system
The reason and / or benefits stated by 911 have been:
1. Helps locate streets faster in an emergency.
From a 911 standpoint the geo regions can be in the 911 dispatch computers. If every
street name in the county is unique and the prefix is used on duplicate street names, I do
not see any additional benefit in locating an address in an emergency by having the
prefix on the street sign.
Regarding duplicate street names I think we should make the prefix part of the street
name and therefore should divide the county in geo regions for this reason.
Finally, I have checked azound the state and have visited numerous counties azound the
state and I have not found andcounties that include the prefix on all street signs.
