In accordance with the court's approved budget we are scheduled to hire an Information Systems Support Specialist on or about April 1, 2001. This draft job description needs to be approved and the process and schedule for filling the position needs to be determined. 1 will propose that after the job description is approved we will list the opening with the Texas Workforce Commission and advertise it locally. The selection process will be scheduled to result in a start date on or about April 1, 2001 for the individual selected. If possible I would suggest that we wait to see the level of applicants we receive before setting the Grade Level of the position. In any case we will not exceed the budgeted amount. Larry Griffin KERR COUNTY INFORMATION SYSTEMS SUPPORT SPECIALIST GENERAL DESCRIPTION Performs complex systems support work providing customer support for Kerr County information systems. Work involves operating automated office in either astand-alone, network, or mainframe environment. Provides training to Kerr County staff in the implementation and use of automated systems. Implements and maintains the Kerr County website and acts as its webmaster. May supervise and train systems support staff. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED Uses several different software package applications which perform computations or arithmetic and logic operations to arrange, sort, or manipulate data. Advises users and analyzes user requirements and makes recommendations on software and the efficient use of information technology systems. Assists users in the design, development, and maintenance of various system applications. Provides technical assistance and support for applications/hardware problems and for information sharing with external entities in a customer service environment. Provides customer service and help desk support to Kerr County offices. Implements and maintains the Kerr County website and acts as its webmaster. Reviews and recommends the procurement of information technology hardware or software. Maintains the necessary security controls over the software. Develops and makes presentations and briefings for employee training sessions. Develops and publishes system operations procedures. Prepares briefings, reports, and evaluations as to systems efficiency and utilization. May coordinate with other sections or agencies concerning the implementation of new systems, administration of Kerr County policies and procedures, and scheduling of technical support activities. May supervise and train systems support staff. May be responsible for the management of a local area network. Performs related work as assigned. GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES Experience and Education Experience in systems support work, including training staff on how to operate equipment and installing and repairing equipment is mandatory .Experience in website building and maintenance is mandatory. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is mandatory. College courses in computer science and/or technology is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another. Knowledge. Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of the practices, principles, and techniques of computer operation; of information systems; computer software and hardware; information security policies and procedures; help desk environment, local and wide area networks, database administration, Internet website management and management of information system. Skill in communicating technical material to others, in the use and support of personal computers in applicable programs and system, and in troubleshooting information systems. Ability to train others, to operate information technology systems, and to troubleshoot and repair equipment
