Box 290842 • Kem~ille, Texas 78029-0842 • (830) 257-6833 • www.kerrcountyfair.com January 28, 2002 The Honorable Judge Fred Henneke Kerr County 700 Main Street Kerrville, Texas 78028 The Kerr County Fair Association requests to be on the Commissioner's Court agenda of February 1 1, 2002 regazding waiver of fee and multi year leasing agreement for use of the Hill Country Youth Exhibit Center for the annual Kerr County Fair. The annual Kerr County Fair provides the residents of Kerr, Bandera, Real, Edwards, Kimble, Gillespie, and Kendall counties an opportunity to exhibit their skills and receive recognition for their achievements while promoting the welfaze of the family, home, and community. r., Wavier of fee is requested as the Kerr County Fair brings rcvcnue to Kerr County in the form of sales tax collected and paid by the 50-60 vendors whose sales range for $500.00 - $5,000.00 each, 10-12 food vendors with sales from $300.00 - $2,500.00 each, and carnival operations gross receipts of $20,000.00 - $25,000.00. This does not include sales at restaurants, food stores, hotels, and gas stations by out-of--town vendors, carnival operations crew, and visitors. The Kerr County Fair brings visitors who participate in the cook-off, fair parade, rodeo events, and 4H-prospect show. In addition the Kerr County Fair also collects and remits sales tax, which in turn benefits Kerr County. The Kerr County Fair Association has contributed to the Hill Country Youth Exhibit Center by purchasing and installing a water heater in the concession area of the exhibit hall for the benefit of all users. A refrigerator was also donated to that area for general use. Ticket booths owned by the Kerr County Fair Association is routinely used by various groups who are tenants at the Hill Country Youth Exhibit Center. All of these items are available to be used by any tenant of the Hill Country Youth Exhibit Center without any consideration of compensation to the Kerr County Fair Association. A multi yeaz lease agreement at the Hill Country Youth Exhibit Center is requested due to required multi year contracts with quality petting zoos and carnival operators. In order to obtain quality petting zoo and carnival operations a commitment to a schedule many years in advance is necessary. The Kerr County Fair Association has just completed negotiations to obtain a contract with awell-known and top quality carnival in the industry. The Kerr County Fair Association based this contract on a multi year ~ commitment. Providing the residents of Kerr, Bandera, Gillespie, Real, Edwards, Kendall, and Kimble Coumies an opportunity to exhibit their finished skills and receive recognihan for their achievements; ar:d promote the welfare ojthe family, home and community.
