This item came to my attention through the efforts of the "Schumacher Sisters" in getting the crossing officially designated (see attached letter). In discussion with Bill Tucker his thought was that all of the crossings should be designated by name as a convenience to travelers and, more important, to emergency services. I agree. TXDoT just needs an official request from the local governing body, in this case the county, to designate and place the signs. TXDoT will bear all of the costs. It appears that technically we wouldn't have to have a public hearing. However, it is probably best that we do, so that everybody gets their shot at the names. O. BOX 203 HUNT, TEXAS 78024 January 31, 2002 Mr. Larry Griffin Kerr County Commissioner, Pct. 4 P. O. Box 613 Hunt, Texas 78024 Dear Larry, As you know, we recently contacted Bili Tucker with the Texas Department of Transportation requesting that signs be placed to designate the area known locally as Schumacher Crossing. At his suggestion, we are writing to .-~ request your assistance in having the bridge officially designated by Ken County so that the Texas DOT can erect the signs. Enclosed is information that makes reference to the bridge by the name "Schumacher Crossing." This long history seems deserving of recognition. This designation would perhaps also assist newcomers as well as our local citizenry in providing a landmark for directions. In an effort to preserve this designation, we would like to have our request brought before the appropriate entity in Kerr County. Thank you very much for your assistance, and please let us know what further action needs to be taken on our part. Sincerely, ~~~~~~~~~11 tClh(RU~~.Gt.Lc.~Gf~ Jul-~c- Frances Andrews Billie Zuber Jeanme Sutton
