COMMISSIONER BALDWIN: We had made an agreement a year or two aqo with you that -- to hire that -- to allow to you have a third attorney in your office if you agreed to assign that person to the needs of the -- to the Commissioners Court. Who will be that person? Do we have an attorney down there that is assigned to the Commissioners Court? MR. MOTLEY: Well, we don't have a third attorney. I mean, I guess you're looking at him. COMMISSIONER BALDWIN: So, if you bring in another attorney, then that person -- MR. MOTLEY: Well, now, to be honest with you, I can't say, because -- let me explain. I mean, some of the people that I've, talked to, their background is i primarily criminal prosecution, and some of the people have done sort of a mixed type of -- or administrative law that is a little bit more civil, and we've not really had anybody show interest for the job that is -- you know, somebody that's really had experience advising governmental bodies. Ilse had that and Stan had that. Travis was specifically interested in that. When we advertise the position, we don't advertise it strictly with that job description. We 104 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 advertise it with a -- with a broad job description to be able to do anything that comes up, and we all like to czoss-train so they can prosecute cases or go to the mental health courts or juvenile, you know, whatevez, because we're not really big enough. And, frankly, the Commissioners Court is not -- it's not such that it would take up 100 percent of a prosecutor's time. COMMISSIONER BALDWIN: Absolutely not. MR. MOTLEY: So, they need to be able to do something else, so we limit rt to somebody who's been in an advisory capacity. I had one lady in San Antonio who has worked with the airport department of the City of San Antonio, has done quite a bit of advising, antl has also worked in municipal court. And, they always -- she was able to work under short notice and work with -- you know, in unusual circumstances, kind of short-notice situations, and pretty good on her feet and everything. And, I -- she came over to be interviewed, and we called her back, and she was being cons idexed for a -- a promotion within her department, and she didn't even call us back when we called her to see if she was still interested. COMMISSIONER BALDWIN: I know I, for one, as a Commissioner here -- I mean, I really was spoiled by Travis, his response time, his clarity of response, and -- and Che way he handled the situation. Ard, I know that`s up to you who you -- who you assign. I just -- I want to make sure that we get somebody that takes care of us. MR. MOTLEY: It may be that -- it may be theoretically possible that we get somebody who's had a Lot of experience doing Family violence, protective orders, mental health and juvenile, and Chey take over those functions, and I may move into some more pzosewtion, and Jerry may come over and -- and do this work. I mean, he's an accomplished attorney. COMMISSIONER BALDWIN: So you definitely will assign somebody? MR. MOTLEY: Oh, yeah, absolutely. And Z will say that -- but even before Travis, I mean, I really feel that Like that the Court has had, I think, good representation when we've -- we've -- you know, whoever it's been. I mean, if you go back to Stan or if you want to talk about Ilse, whoever y'all want to talk about, I think that y'all have gotten high quality representation on basically what's kind of a -- sort of a part-time job far that position, iŁ you follcw what I'm saying, COMMISSIONER BALDWIN: Yeah, I do, Okay. 106 1 2 3 Thank you. MOTLEY: No, my intension would be to do exactly as we did the last time, which would be to have a person -- COMMISSIONER BALDWIN: Great. MR. MOTLEY: -- or persons come in here and attend the court sessions and try [o get y'all as timely a response as possible on the inquiries that y'a11 need to know. And, one oŁ the things Travis did was kind of anticipate things in advance antl sort of prepared for those things in advance at home a lot of times, so he was able to give quick answers like that.
