Monday night, August 26, 2002, was the first opportunity for the Kerr County Commissioncrs' Court to discuss
whether or not the county should enroll in the Hazard Mitigation Program.
Our floodplain administrator, Stuart Barron, was on hand to supply information of how many homes would be
eligible for your program. Mr. Barron indicated there were about 13 homes that Sustained substantial damage
during the July 2002 flood. Of these 13 homes, there are between 3-5 families that are interested in the buy out
program. In the interest of these 5 families, the Kerr County Commissioners' county has decided to investigate the
costs and benefits of the Hazard Mitigation Program.
Mr. LeBlanc, has it been your experience, that no matter how few participants a county may have, it is still
worthwhile to enroll in this program, or is there acut-off point where the cost benefit analysis no longer makes it
feasible?
Please accept this letter as our formal request to remain eligible to enroll in the Hazard Mitigation Progam for
another 45 days. This should give us enough time to see if this progam fits our needs, make the application and
supply the supporting documents.
