Respectfully enclosed for your consideration is a resolution regarding declaring
September 2002 as Destination Dignity Month. On behalf of Hill Country
Community Mental Health and Mental Retardation Center (an entity sponsored by
and serving residents of Kerr County), our consumers, and their families, I encourage
you to adopt the resolution at your next commissioner's court meeting as a means:
To promote awareness, understanding and acceptance of individuals who are
suffering from mental disabilities;
- To recognize the support offered by Hill Country Community Mental Health
and Mental Retardation Center in assisting individuals with mental
disabilities;
- To offer a sign of encouragement and support for both individuals who are
suffering from mental disabilities and for their families and friends; and
- To recognize the importance of helping individuals with mental disabilities
live independent productive lives in their local communities as a means of
strengthening the community and valuing the gifts each individual has to
offer.

Resolution Declaring September 2002 as
Destination Dignity Month in Kerr County
Whereby, Governor Rick Perry has proclaimed September 2002 as Destination Dignity Month in Texas,
and
Whereby, the Commissioners' Court of Kerr County recognizes that Hill Country Community Mental
Health and Mental Retardation Center helps residents of Kerr County with serious mental disabilities to
lead productive lives as members of their local community; and
Whereby, the Court recognizes that more than 175,000 Texans and their families rely on the services of
Community Mental Health and Mental Retardation Centers as a means of receiving the specialized
support they need; and
Whereby, the Court recognizes the ongoing efforts of Hill Country Community Mental Health and
Mental Retardation Center in bring together federal, state and local resources to expand community caze
options for individuals with serious mental disabilities; and
Whereby, the Court recognizes that the support offered through Hill Country Community Mental Health
and Mental Retardation Center provides the assistance and resources crucial to individuals with mental
disabilities in being able to live as independently and successfully as possible; and
Whereby, the Court encourages the promotion of community awareness, understanding and acceptance
of individuals with serious mental disabilities; and
Whereby, the Court urges all citizens to recognize and appreciate the valuable role that individuals with
serious mental disabilities, their families, and Hill Country Community Mental Health and Mental
Retardation Center each perform in linking individuals with serious mental disabilities with resources to
reach their full potential as valued members of their community;
The Commissioner's Court of Kerr County hereby resolves that September 2002 be declazed
Destination Dignity Month in Kerr County.
