PROCLAMATION WHEREAS; Rod Kennedy was abig-band singer in the 1940's, a Marine sergeant in the Korean Waz, founder of Austin's first FM radio station and second television station; WHEREAS; Rod Kennedy has produced more than 1,500 events in the past 55 years, including 31 yeazs of festivals in the Texas Hill Country; WHEREAS; Rod Kennedy has produced 12 Isla Mujeres International Music Festivals, 8 Longhorn Jazz Festivals, 5 Summer Music Festivals, 2 Celebrate Austin Music Festivals, 3 Mesquite Folk Festivals, a dozen bluegrass and folk music concerts in Houston's Jones Hall and Miller Outdoor Theater, and hundreds of other events; WHEREAS; Rod Kennedy has produced 31 Kerrville Folk Festivals, 15 Kemille Bluegrass Festivals (1974-1991), 11 Kerrville Wine & Music Festivals, 3 Kemille Goodtime Music Festivals (1983-1986), 2 Kemille Classical Music Festivals and other events in Kerr County; WHEREAS; Rod Kennedy has served as executive director of his own Kerrville Music Foundation, Inc., dedicated to assisting emerging songwriters; and as founding chairman of the Texas Festivals Association and served on the TFA boazd for a decade; WHEREAS; Rod Kennedy recently founded and serves as executive director of the non- profit tourism group, the Kerrville Special Events Association, to continue to bring events and tourism to fill some of Kerrville's "empty" weekends; and WHEREAS; Rod Kennedy is retiring from producing the continuing festivals at Quiet Valley Ranch, "9 miles south of Kemffie on Highway 16."
