Chairman Walter Schellhase called the meeting to order with the following persons in attendance: Haskell Fine, Brenda Craig, Clarabelle Snodgrass, Lloyd Strange, Lew Williams, Rena Sherman, and Julius Neunhoffer. Approval of Minutes: Motion was made by Lloyd Strange seconded by Lew Williams to approve the minutes of the August 20,2002 meeting; motion passed. Treasurer's Report: Haskell Fine reported County Fund #10-$386.51 with a bill pending of $375; Special Fund #80--$3,932.46; Checking, $1,738.58. Lew Williams moved for approval of the treasurer's report; motion seconded by Clarabelle Snodgrass and passed. Friends Acflvitiea: I n r :Ann Bethel had taken draft copies to the printer to get quotes; waiting to see how many will be purchased by the banks. Discussed selling calendars and other items at the market days event at the courthouse. Union Church Update: Julius Neunhoffer reported the steeple had been installed. He had planned to paint the exterior this week, however, he was having difficulty in getting community service workers scheduled. The next priority will be electrical wiring and then the walls can be installed; only one electrical bid had been received for $7,461 from Guadalupe Electric. Plumbing has bean roughed in except for the plumbing fixtures. Air conditioning bid had been awarded to Hardin and they are ready to install when the funds are available. The Kerr County Commissioners' Court had expressed a desire to hold the last KCCC meeting for 2002 in the Union Church. Nomination for 2003 Directors: Walter Schellhase noted the bylaws require election of directors and officers far2003-2004; a nominating committee would be elected at the October meeting to select a slate of officers to be elected by the general membership at the November meeting. The names of the elected directors will then be presented to the commissioners' court for confirmation and appointment at the December meeting. Zion Lutheran Church Historical Marker: Lew Williams reported the marker had been received and the church had set the dedication for October 27 at noon. The marker will be installed at the comer of Barnett and Hwy. 16. She will be preparing the program for the dedication and getting an announcement to the news media. Historical Markers: Clarabeile Snodgrass reported she was reviewing the Schumacher Crossing application; other markers discussed were Lions Camp, Divide School, and Barnett Methodist Chapet. Rena Sherman moved to proceed with establishing the web site with funds to be paid out of the county budget if available, and if not, then out of KCHG bank account; the motion was seconded by Lew Williams and passed. Orel History: Working an interviews in progress. Publici :Walter Scheilhase reported that Lew Williams had succeeded in getting tront page coverage for the steeple raising, and it was also on Channel 10 TV. It was suggested to get a copy of the video for KCHC archives. Lew reported she was also working an the following stories: historical marker brochure, 2003 calendar, web site (when completed), and the Zion Lutheran Church historical marker dedication. KCFIC Office: Walter Schellhaae reported he had been in contact with Bill Williams and was working to get a permanent lease on the building. After discussion, it was decided not to pursue this further at this time. Disgtav at Courthouse: Rena Sherman reported she would be updating the display to include the Union Church steeple and the 2003 calendar. Telephone Bill Inserts: The Friends will be discussing whether to do inserts this week. rHs: Sue Dyke reported several grants had been submitted. She provided a list of foundations in San Antonio that KCHC Friends may want to contact. They are charged with nominating nine directors and a slate of officers to be presented at the KCHC general membership meeting in November and to the Kerr County Commissioners' Court for confirmation and appointment at their December 9, 2002 meeting. Union Church U ate: Kerr County Commissioners' Court Meetlna: Walter Schellhasa reported the KCCC has exprossed a desire to hold their last meeting of the year in the Union Church on December 23. An application had been received for the Schumacher Crossing in Hunt; it will t~ forwarded to the state. Web Site: Loyd Strange reported he and Jim Webb, the gentleman who has volunteered to help set up a web page, have been working on ideas about how to set up the web page and be able to changelupdate ft monthly. He will list the oral histories that are available, calendars and sales order forms: and other information about KCHC. They will also be working on linking the KCHC web page to other sites, Oral H'rstorv: Ann Bethel reported water damage in the KCHC office fxhind the history center; KCHC did riot have any damage upstairs, however there was minor damage to the building downstairs in the interview room, and genealogy had considerable damage to their records that had been stored in the downstairs pORion of the building. There was discussion of trying to get a lease or a letter of understanding from the city, however, the city is not willing to provide a lease or lariat due to handicap requirements that would have to be met. The building needs heat before winter. Historic Cemetery Markers; Walter Schellhase noted THC had made policy changes; Clarahelle will review the changes and process for submission. GP3 Loca~on of markrzra and Cemateri~: THC requested GPS (Gbbal Positioning System) bcatbns for ail cemeG9ries in Kerr county. Clarabelle, Rosa Lavender, and Gerald Witt volunteered to work on this project. Publicity: Walter Schellhase reported that Lew Williams had secured front page coverage and several pictures in the Daily Times for the Union Church steeple raising; story should also run in the Mountain Sun this weak. Lew will arrange publicity for the Zion Lutheran Church historical marker dedication. Famitv Land Heritage: Deadline for applications to THC is November 15, 2002. Chishplm Trail: Brochure was distributed as received by THC. Nifty 50s Aoolicasigns: THC is trying to locate buildings built in the 1950s that are of archftectural significance.
