No information associated with site specific soil pazameters was available or provided for use in the analysis. ,f, Project 20020004 - Gj~~ 3/4/2002 Page 3of 7 Five Star Wireless Center Point, TX 72' Monopole ANALYSIS CRITERIA This analysis was undertaken to determine the structural adequacy of the subject monopole to safely support the existing and proposed antennas and transmission lines as listed above. The analysis was performed in accordance with the requirements and stipulations of the ANSUTIA/BIA 222-F Structural Standards for Steel Antenna Towers and Antenna Supporting Structures. For the purposes of this analysis, the existing monopole is assumed to have been properly maintained. Structural members aze assumed to be in good condition with no defects and no deterioration in cross sectional azea or structural capacity. Minimum Basic Wind Speed Requirements, 70 mph Per EIA 222-F for Kerr County, TX a Basic Wind Speed Used in the Analysis: 80 mph + 0" Radial Ice 69.3 mph + /~" Radial Ice (Simultaneous) Tn recognition of the Design Criteria employed in the original monopole design, the 80 mph Basic Wind Speed was retained in the current analysis. Use of this increased wind speed (with respect to the minimum Basic Wind Speed required by EIA) will provide an increased factor of safety. Operational Wind Speed Used in the Analysis: 50 mph + 0" Ice However, the monopole was found to be operationally adequate, even at the full design wind condition. Project 20020004 rqd 3/4/2002 Page 4of 7 Five Star Wireless ANALYSIS RESULTS Center Point, TX 72' Monopole The results of the computer output of the structural analysis, performed for the wind and ice loading and antenna placement defined above, indicate the following: Shaft: The stresses in the main shaft of the monopole aze below the allowable stresses for '- the full height of the structure. The maximum stress ratio is 0.337 in the upper section and 0.525 in the base section. ..,. Base Foundation: No information was available pertaining to site specific soil conditions. Consequently, the adequacy of the base foundation to resist the reactions associated with the analysis could not be confirmed. Compazison of the original monopole base foundations with those determined by the current analysis revealed that the reactions associated with the existing and proposed antenna loading are significantly lower than those associated with the original monopole and foundation design. Consequently, assuming the foundation was designed properly, it should be adequate to resist the new reactions. Operational Condition: The sway of the monopole at the microwave antenna elevation, even at the full design wind condition of 80 mph + yz" radial ice, is significantly less than the maximum allowable sway fora 6 ft. diameter microwave anteana operating in the 1000 MHz frequency range. Conclusions Based on the Structural Analysis performed, the existing monopole is capable of safely supporting the "- existing and proposed antennas as specified above, and meets the minimum requirements of ANSUTIA/EIA 222-F when subjected to a Basic Wind Speed of 80 mph and 1/2" ice. The analysis has been performed based on tower geometry and member data provided by Mr. Robin McGough, of Five Staz Wireless. Accuracy of the results of this analysis is dependent on the accuracy of the information provided. Field verification of information provided with respect to existing antennas was not included in the Scope of Work for Structure & Tower Designers, Inc. The accuracy of the analysis is dependent on the accuracy of the information provided. 2. Unless clearly stated otherwise, the analysis is based on the presumption that the tower members and components along with any subsequent reinforcement items have been correctly and properly designed, manufactured, installed and maintained so that theoretical methods of predicting structural capacity aze m accurate within the normal limits accepted and prescribed by ANSUTIA/EIA 222-F and the American Institute of Steel Construction Desien of Steel Construction. Furthermore, it is presumed that these members aze in new condition with no physical damage or deterioration associated with corrosion. W 3. The level of detail of the analysis is within industry accepted limits. The analysis examines the relationship of the proposed loading, as provided by the customer and listed herein, to the internal loads and load capacities of the main structural members and connections. It is not possible or practical to -- obtain the information required to perform a detailed study of every secondary component or connection. Structure & Tower Designers, Inc. does not profess to, nor can it take responsibility for the investigation and verification of every detail, plate, bolt and weld present in the structure. r 4. As explained in EIA 222-F, the responsibility of specifying a Basic Wind Speed to be used in the design or analysis of a tower structure lies with the tower owner or individual specifying the analysis. EIA 222-F prescribes minimum Basic Wind Speeds for each County or Parish, but more stringent -- conditions may be prescribed to meet regional code requirements or owner preference. The Basic Wind considered in the analysis and listed in the report, exceeds the minimum Basic Wind Speed prescribed by EIA 222-F and provides an increased factor of safety. Although every effort is taken to insure that the loading considered is adequate to meet the requirements of all applicable regulatory entities, Structure Bc Tower Designers, Inc. can provide no assurance that all local and state requrements aze satisfied by these conditions. '- 5. Unless specifically stated otherwise, the equations specified for the Exposure Coefficient and Gust Factors are based on wind conditions in open, level country, and grasslands. Should modifications to these equations be required to comply with local geographical conditions, such modifications must be provided to Structure & Tower Designers, Inc. prior to performance of the analysis. Unless clearly stated otherwise, the analysis has been performed on the basis of the standazd wind velocity to pressure equations found in EIA 222-F. '- 6. As explained in EIA 222-F, the responsibility for specifying the amount of radial ice to be considered on the structure lies with the tower owner or individual specifying the analysis. The amount of radial ice accumulation on the tower should be based on meteorological data for the specific geographical m azea where the tower is located. The amount of radial ice considered in the analysis, as listed in the report, is consistent with the geographical location of the structure and prior meteorological data for this azea. The responsibility for providing information pertaining to the size, depth and details of existing „_, foundations lies with the tower owner or individual specifying the analysis. For the present analysis, information on the size, depth and details of existing foundations was provided by Mr. Robin McGough, of Five Staz Wireless. Information pertaining to the site specific soil conditions was not available. Consequently, the adequacy of the existing foundations to resist the reactions associated "" with the analysis could not be confirmed. Comparison of the original monopole base foundations with those determined by the current analysis revealed that the reactions associated with the existing and proposed antenna loading aze significantly lower than those associated with the original monopole and foundation design. Consequently, assuming the foundation was designed properly, it should be adequate to resist the new reactions. 8. Any modification or reinforcement work specified by this analysis should be performed by persons who '~ aze experienced and lmowledgeable in the specific azea of tower construction. It is not the intent of this report to specify construction methods or safety procedures that should be employed. An in depth, detailed study and a plan of action should be formulated by construction personnel prior to any modification or reinforcement being performed. Temporary guying, temporary bracing and other measures as might be necessary to safely arrive at the fmal state of the tower as defined in the analysis report should be determined and implemented.
