Mrs. Royce Stone representing Kerrville Garden Club has requested permission to purchase and plant a tree on the courthouse grounds. My recommendation, if approved by Commissioner's Court, is to place the tree on the outside perimeter of the square where hackberry trees were removed 2 years ago. NATIONAL GARDEN CLUBS, INC. Members Urged to Plant "Freedom To further honor and remember the victims of September 11, 2001, the NGC "Two Million Trees" Committee has designed an additional tree planting program in which our membership could plant "Freedom Trees:' Each tree planted would become a living monument to our country and demonstrate a meaningful, positive response to a disastrous series of events. Shell Oil Co. will partner this project by providing a certificate at the end of this administration for each member club, council, district, state or region that registers their Freedom Tree Dedication. Special awards totaling $1,000 will be given [o states that plant the most total FREEDOM TREES and the most trees per capita. Entries must be on au official application form.
