Resolution No. - 2003 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMISSIONERS COURT, OF KERR COUNTY, TEXAS, EXPRESSING CONTINUING AND STRONG SUPPORT FOR TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY -HILL COUNTRY AND ITS REQUEST FOR APPROPRIATIONS IN ~FC~ISI~~'~[JIZ.F ~~2>Ct..FIS_GAL..Y~.A~R,~_2Q~4_.A.NI?._~fl~~.__ Whereas the Hill Country of Texas -one of the fastest growing rural areas in the nation - is underserved by institutions of higher education; Whereas the continued economic viability of rural Texas and the success and welfare of its residents is highly dependent upon the provision of higher-education services; Whereas it is essential for the area's diverse student population to have ready access to higher education opportunities; Whereas the continued development of the Texas Tech University -Hill Country academic center network is critical to meeting the needs of this student population at an affordable cost; Whereas the academic center network is the first comprehensive effort in Texas to provide services to a wide rural area; Whereas Texas Tech University -Hill Country promotes collaboration, not competition, among colleges and universities; Whereas local communities in the Hill Country have invested significantly in the academic center network, matching every dollar of State funding with one dollar contributed by local governments and private donors; and Whereas State support of Texas Tech University -Hill Country is essential at this crucial time of the academic center network's development: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSIONERS COURT, OF THE COUNTY OF KERR TEXAS, THAT THE COURT: (1) Fully supports the Texas Tech University -Hill Country (TTU-HC) request for appropriations as submitted to the Texas Legislature for fiscal years 2004 and 2005. (2) Strongly recommends enactment of these appropriations at the levels requested - (A) Multiple Institution-Teaching Center (MITC) for Core Curriculum and College Success to fund the operations of TTU-HC Highland Lakes, in the amounts of $490,000 for fiscal year 2004 and $496,212 for fiscal year 2005; (B) Junction Center, in the amounts of $362,500 for each of fiscal years 2004 and 2005; and (C) MITC Fredericksburg, in the amounts of $500,000 for each of fiscal years 2004 and 2005.
