F~ofla Lll~~~f- I would like,on behalf of the KISD Band Boosters, to request the use of the AG Barn on the weekend of March 5,6,& 7, 2004. We are exploring the idea of inviting every school band program for a radius of 50 miles to participate in a pre-uil competition and festival. Currently, there is no venue for any such competition in the Hill Country and the opportunity is there to promote our kids, our bands, our community, and our musical heritage. We are fortunate to have, within 50 miles, three 4-A championship bands, Tivy, Fredericksburg, and Boerne. Those three have been perennial powerhouses and a vast pool of talent. Sometimes though, we tend to forget that we also have, Ingram, Harper, Comport, Center Point, Medina, and Bandera. These schools also have a tremendous contribution to make. What we propose is to bring them all here. Let them compete at our new high school facility, and shuttle them to the Ag Barn for performances by their special bands,ie. Jazz, Swing, Polka, Rock and Country. While the bands are performing, we plan to bring in clinics featuring local artists, Jam Sessions, Talent competitions, etc. We don't plan to do this all alone. We would like to do this in conjunction with the booster organizations of each respective school. We also plan to share in the proceeds, with each school getting their fair share. Not only will this promote community spirit, it will give alter bands an opportunity to tap into resources they have never had access to before. They will be able to see what the other kids are doing and further their own goals. If we invite the music companies to sponsor booths, they will also be able to see the latest in band technology. We feel that this is in keeping with our goals, to further interest in the band programs of the area. We feel that this will be beneficial for the county, as is anything that increases awareness of our promotion of the arts and children in our area. We would like the Commissioners to forgive the fee for the use of the facility. It is for the children and our community. These children should feel proud to be from Kerr County and I don't know of any better way to support them. Thank your consideration and this opportunity. We greet you as fellow band people. Sounds like a science fiction movie, huh? Well, if your school is anything like ours, you feel like you're out there by yourself. Well, you're not. In the hill country, there are hundreds of band students and thousands of their parents who know exactly how it is to try to maintain a viable band or music program. That's why we propose, with respect, a band festival. Why a festival? Because, during the early months of the year, the pressure on our children to perform is so immense, it is almost unbearable for some of them. Tivy would like to hold apre-uil/festival for ALL hill country high schools and possibly middle schools. Pre-uil at our new facility and festival at the ag barn. Granted, the ag barn isn't the ideal facility, but we'd like to try to make it that way. At the ag barn, we'd like to see exhibitions by specialty bands (your stage bands), clinics, booths for your boosters, booths for the music companies, colleges, etc. We invite you teo explore this possibility WITH us. We want participation from all bands that are interested. What we need to know is...are you interested? We need to know before we ask for the facility. This is not a committment, just an inquiry to see if we have the possibility of participation. Please let us know via this a-mail if you are interested. Rock on! Keep me posted as details become available. Though I am new to this area one of the things I like is how even though schools are far apart the local band directors work together helping each other out whenever possible.
