MEMO DATE: February 17, 2004 TO: County Judge and Commissioner's Court FROM: Glenn Holekamp SUBJECT: Location of (2) small equipment sheds The weekend Community Service program that has been serving the county for several years is expanding to include a weekend crew made up of females. This should help with trash pick-up on roads and areas of the county that currently have not been picked up. The Community Service Coordinator requests that the "crews," male and female, meet at separate locations for obvious reasons and I agree. I am requesting the Commissioners allow me to assist community service to relocate (2} small storage buildings to the Exhibit Center complex. They will not be placed anywhere that will create an obstacle or eyesore for the complex. My recommended location is directly behind the horse stalls. They will be between Riverside Drive, and the stalls, with a security fence funded and installed by Community Service. This move will be of no cost to the county budget. The van and trailer, which Shel uses every weekend, will also be housed in this location. Electrical is also in place at this location so security lights can be installed. I believe this is a great opportunity for Kerr County to utilize the resources of labor without having to impact maintenance budgets. The potential of trash pick-up details, "Illegal Dumping," that we may be able to start scheduling in March will be a great benefit to Kerr County. Call for more details if needed. Thanks Glenn Holekamp To: Glenn Holekamp From: Dan Edwards, Special Projects Coordinator, 216' CSCD Re: Weekend Crew This memo is to summarize our conversation concerning the weekend crew. As we discussed I am planning to add a women's weekend crew by the first of March and will need a place for them to meet separate from the men's weekend crew. This new crew will be used for various projects that will include cleaning of the Ag Barn and other county facilities, picking up trash along the road, picking up trash in county parks and assignment to eligible civic groups in the county to assist in their operation. I would like to use our current, leased property near the recycling center to keep their van, trailer and work supplies. They would meet at my office on Saturday and Sunday morning and go to assigned work sites from that location. I will employ a person to supervise them on the weekends. The only problem I see at this time is that I will need to move the men's work crew to a different location so they will not mix with the women's crew. I would like to request that the county set aside an area at the Ag Barn complex for storage of their van, trailer and two storage buildings. I will use community service workers to fence off this area at no cost to the county. This will also give the weekday community service workers access to our equipment for your use at the Ag Barn. As done with the men's crew I will work with you to make sure that the county gets first option on the work assignment of the female crew. Thank you for your assistance in this matter. r ~~ - ``~ an Edwards
