MEMORANDUM DATE: MAY 20, 2004 TO: COUNTY JUDGE & COMMISSIONERS FROM: BARBARA NEMEC, COUNTY TREASURER SUBJECT: MERIT INCREASE My Chief Deputy, Cynthia Nix has been doing an exceptional job with our Safety Program. Her dedication and organization has made this a very successful "safety program". Since the county was identified as a "Hazardous Employer" Cindy has done an excellent job in the areas listed below. This has kept the county from being penalized up to $5,000 a day and has also resulted in the county receiving a substantial reimbursement of $17,000 plus. Therefore, I strongly recommend she receive a 2.5% merit increase. $a~ p~r°8'ra,,,. Maintain claims diaries on all workers comp claims, orientation checklist on all clerical employees, monthly inspection guides/office hazards on all 33 departments, quarterly analysis report Schedule safety committee meetings and coordinate assistance with Larry Boccacio from TAC, office safety meeting with all office clerical employees and maintain attendance sheets. Order appropriate videos from TAC catalog and have ready for above safety meetings. Distribute videos to departments and individuals not able to attend meetings and keep separate attendance sheets. Return videos to TAC in a timely manner. Contact departments by memo and telephone to keep all monthly documentation up to date. Looking into the possibility of implementing some of the following: Fitness for Duty Request, Drug Free Workplace Resource Guide, Return to Work Policy & Procedure, Post-offer Medical Exam, Prospective Employment Authorization and Certification by TWCC, Tape record statements on workers comp claims, Drug testing following a vehicular or machinery involved workers comp claims, Re-evaluate job description s for all employees to determine if lifting is "essential vs. possible", Update Reporting on the Job Accidents/Inquires Farm, Witness statements on all workers comp claims, Safety Incentive Program.
